Columbus Business First recently reported that a tenfold increase in cargo volume at Rickenbacker International Airport is expected to spur $1.3 billion in development through 2036 – about half from private companies.

Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. recently announced that its Atlas Air, Inc. unit has expanded its strategic agreement with Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA) to add three NCA-owned Boeing 747- 400 Freighters to the existing operation, bringing the total number of 747-400Fs operated on behalf of NCA to five. The incremental aircraſt will be operated on key routes across the fast-growing transpacific market, and are scheduled to enter service in April, July and September 2019.


AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC), and Unilode Aviation Solutions, have extended their ULD management partnership for the extensive usage of Transmitting Portable Electronic Devices (TPEDs) for ULDs – pallets and containers. The equipment, which is a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE v.5.0) tracking and sensing device, will be firmly mounted to ULDs supplied and managed by Unilode and carried in the cargo compartments of ABC’s Boeing 747 freighter fleet. The monitoring devices will be used to track ULDs, register all environmental parameters, covering such crucial factors as temperature, humidity, illumination and shock actions to guarantee 100% transparency of shipment data.


Luſthansa Cargo is stepping up its cooperation with start-up cargo.one and has acquired a minority shareholding in the Berlin company. Luſthansa Cargo is thereby making the switch from early adopter to minority investor. Berlin-based cargo.one was founded in 2017 by Moritz Claussen, Oliver T. Neumann and Mike Rötgers. The start-up has developed a platform for booking and marketing air cargo capacity. Through its focus on offering dynamic spot rates and enabling their booking, cargo.one is the first platform of its kind.


Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd (Hactl) – Hong Kong’s largest independent cargo handler – has received the “Smart Airport Technovation Award – Operational Excellence”, in 2018’s Smart Airport Technovation Awards organized by Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). The award was given to Hactl in recognition of its “Smart Cargo Locating” project, which has recently gone live in the company’s SuperTerminal 1 facility.


Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) will commence cargo handling for Luſthansa Cargo at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on Feb. 1, 2019. The new contract will see WFS handle around 30,000 tonnes per annum, serving the airline’s combined trucked and flown products.


dnata has launched operations at Los Angeles International Airport and now provides quality and reliable ground handling and cargo services at 20 airports in the country. To establish operations in Los Angeles, dnata has invested $8 million in infrastructure and resources. Serving six airlines, including Austrian Airlines, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Luſthansa, Swiss International Air Lines and Qantas, dnata will initially handle 4,600 flights a year.


Antonov Airlines was named Air Freight Operator of the Year in the Freight Transport Association’s (FTA)’s 2018 FTA Logistics Awards. The Ukraine-based heavy liſt carrier was commended for demonstrating industry leadership and excellence in the global air cargo sector.


Emirates is among the top 20 most punctual airlines, so says travel analyst portal OAG. Last year the carrier substantially improved its punctuality, achieving on time performance (OTP) of 81.44% compared to 79.71% in 2017. As a result, Emirates is rated 2nd most punctual airline in 2018 as against 4th in the previous year in the Middle East.


The Port of Everett has achieved another vital step in reducing congestion on the I-5 corridor while moving more freight in the region. The port was notified this month that it received designation by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation as a Federal Maritime Administration Marine


Highway Project for the Puget Sound Container on Barge Service under the America’s Marine Highway Program. The port is one of 25 marine


highway projects in the nation, and the only marine project designation on the West Coast. The designation makes the port
