Teen footballerHarvey is a star in themaking
MAIDSTONE’SHarveyWhite is making a name for himself as a rising star in the game after join- ingTottenhamHotspur’s training academy this season. Born in September 2001, the 17-
year-old has proved himself a ver- satile defensive midfielder who can also play left back and centre- halfwith remarkable ease. Agoodall-roundsportsman, the
teenager, whowent toHolmesdale School, nearWestMalling, also en- joys cricket and playing golf. He signed up full-time as a first
year academy player for Spurs in July, and is already attracting the attention of manager Mauricio Pochettino. The coach ran him out with his
senior squad for a training session in a gesture towards exposing more young players to first team challenges. Sports pundits are alsowatching
his development. The Guardian recently praised White’s “intelligence and versatil-
ity” and eye-catching attributes. The paper’s David Hytner
places him in the top 20 best young players in top-flight set- ups, writing: “Tottenham have a handful of prospects in this age group and the Maidstone-born White has sailed a little bit under the radar, but he is improving all the time and, most importantly, he is highly rated by the people that matter at the club. “A good reader of the game,
with sound passing and an excel- lent left foot, he is considered to be most effective as a defensivemid- fielder but he has shown the intel- ligence and versatility to slot in at left-back and centre-half. “His dangerous set-piece deliv-
ery is another of his attributes.” A Spurs spokesman said: “He
was a regular for our under-16s in 2017/18, scoring eight goals, while stepping up to feature once for the under-18s.”
