FOREWORD BY THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR
Welcome to the 2017/18 Annual Review
Welcome to our review of activities for the 12 months to April 2018.
It is extremely encouraging to be able to celebrate continuing growth and the setting of new records in the UK. We knew that it was going to be difficult to build on the success of our exceptional Diamond Anniversary year, when we asked so much of our staff and volunteers.
They have not slowed down delivering an extraordinary year for the young people of the UK. It’s been an amazing year of growth and we hope you will enjoy reading about what’s been going on with the DofE here, helping young people develop their skills for work and life.
Following on from the anniversary year we have now launched the Diamond Fund and were amazed at some of the innovative and interesting projects that we received applications for throughout the first year of the funding.
Every application showed a passion for engaging more disadvantaged young people in the DofE and we have been pleased to be able

to support so many worthwhile projects.
Across the Region we have seen the number of Licensed Organisations delivering the DofE increase from 656 to 781. This has, in the main, been due to the change in our delivery model across the Region. We continued to see more young people accessing the DofE through this model than ever before with 46,010 young people starting their DofE journey and 24,073 achieving an Award. It was a truly fantastic year as we continued to extend the reach of the DofE even further.
On behalf of the Regional team I would like to thank all of you who have been part of the support network for our participants. Your hard work and commitment to the DofE makes a positive, lasting impact on young people. I am excited to continue working with you all as we support each young person through their own personal DofE journey.
I look forward to being able to share with you the many successes of 2018 this time next year.
Jackie Bull Director
To the growing number of teachers, youth workers and volunteers giving their time to lead DofE activity, I thank you. I want to thank everyone that works with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. It’s an extraordinary thing that people across the UK give up their time, their energy and their expertise to help young people develop themselves through the DofE.” PETER WESTGARTH, CEO, THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD
