Celebrating Young Leaders
Being a Young Leader for the DofE equips young people with skills, experience and confidence They gain valuable leadership and management experience as they take on extra responsibilities which can help towards their professional development and career progression.
In 2019 we will be launching the DofE Young Ambassadors programme across Central England.
The DofE Ambassador role is an exciting opportunity for centres to nominate an existing Award holder to take a leading role in promoting, guiding and mentoring other participants.
Our one-day training course will equip our new network of Ambassadors to support DofE delivery. The role will count towards the Volunteering section of their Silver or Gold programmes.
Harry began his DofE in 2013, this is when he describes himself as catching the ‘DofE Bug’. He completed his Bronze and Silver programmes at Thomas Alleyne’s High School and is now in the final stages of completing his Gold.
Harry is an accredited Expedition Assessor for two DofE centres and, at only 19, is now the DofE Manager for his employer Staffordshire Fire and Rescue. Harry has been asked to expand the programme, by delivering Silver and branching out to apprentices as well as Fire Cadets. This has given Harry a unique development opportunity within his role.
Harry says “I am able to see just how much of an impact the DofE has on young people and their lives. It’s given me the opportunity to really connect with the young participants as a young instructor myself”.
Diana had fun when she completed her Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE programmes and this inspired her to become a Leader. Diana is delighted to see young participants enjoying their programmes and this is what spurs her on to continue volunteering.
Diana is passionate about the DofE and says, “I was always shy and quiet, but doing the DofE brought me out of my shell and I found that I’m a strong leader. I learnt a lot about responsibility, problem solving, and motivating myself and others”.
As a DofE Award holder Diana has seen a significant impact on her life whilst at university. Diana tells us “I have got involved in volunteering opportunities at university and I have had the opportunity to travel the world volunteering at international sporting events. This is mainly because I have the skills required that I learnt through doing my DofE.”
