ABOUT DAYBREAK Daybreak is a weekday drop-in center for elderly people or those living with mental illness or physical disabilities or struggling with addiction or HIV/AIDS. To become a Daybreak member, individuals must complete and/or stay active in treatment. Sponsored by Lehigh Conference of Churches, Daybreak serves three meals each weekday and helps members learn life skills that will provide stability and help clients reach their full potential.
OPPORTUNITIES TO
MINISTER ABOUND Tere are countless ways to care for people in our community who find themselves in need for a season or for a lifetime. Join the efforts of First Presbyterian’s Local Mission team. Find a special day or project that is meaningful to you. Offer friends and family the opportunity to join you in pooling resources. What is God calling you to do to care for the “least of these,” and how will you answer this call?
FINDING INNOVATIVE WAYS TO GIVE
Along with FPCA’s mission teams, individuals at First Presbyterian are finding ways to have an impact on our local neighbors by sharing part of themselves. Here are two examples:
Each year, Susan Natiello “gives away” her birthday by spending it serving others as a way of celebrating. Tis year, Susan spent her birthday at Daybreak helping to cook a meal. After that, “I went to Ripple for a couple of hours and hung out there, giving love,” she says. Susan participated in activities at the
Ripple Community building, a drop-in center that cares for the homeless.
Joyce and Rick Gobrecht recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. In lieu of personal gifts, they proposed that those attending their celebration give a monetary gift to Allentown’s YMCA-sponsored Warming Station for the homeless and/or school supplies for Sheridan Elementary. Te Gobrechts’ guests gladly contributed to these causes.
