It’s Daybreak FPCA supports Allentown ministry in special events
BY DONNA BARNWELL.
Te Local Mission team has been very busy serving and caring for the “least of these” in Allentown. In early November, under the leadership of Helen and Charley Underwood, the team hosted a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Daybreak. Te kitchen and hallways of the church were filled with the delicious aroma of spaghetti sauce and garlic bread, which were enjoyed by 350 people.
Daybreak clients helped serve the meal, and Daybreak staff members were on hand to speak to attendees about this community ministry. During dinner, Jane Hurley played beautiful music on the piano, and donations received at the piano were used to purchase Christmas gift cards for 20 Daybreak clients. Tese gift cards were likely to be their only Christmas gifts.
Te spaghetti dinner fundraiser yielded $3,429, which Daybreak staff will use to enhance the lives of the Daybreak members through field trips, activities, and events.

In addition to the spaghetti dinner for Daybreak, a shoe party was held at Boscov’s on November 28. Sixty-eight Daybreak members with their caseworkers came to the store, where each client was allowed to purchase up to $40 worth of new shoes. Tere was much excitement and joy as volunteers from FPCA and the staff from Boscov’s helped Daybreak members find new shoes for the winter.
Tis event was funded by the church’s September loose plate offering of $3,936. Funds remaining after current Daybreak members were outfitted with new shoes will allow new Daybreak clients to purchase shoes as they join the Daybreak community.
