Speeding up

plans process BEARSTED Parish Council has decided that, due to time con- straints, the following initiative is being trialled: Planning applications sent to us

byMBCwill nowbe dealtwith by the planning committee and re- sponded towithin sevenworking days. This means monthly meet- ingswill no longer be required. Residents’ objections should

initially be sent to MBC and will be in place before any application is reviewed by our planning com- mittee. Correspondence may be copied to our planning commit- tee, butmust be loggedwithMBC first. Any contentious planning ap-

plications, including new devel- opments, will be considered at full council meetings where rep- resentations can be made by the public in the usualway. We can assure residents thatwe

look at each and every future ap- plication in detail before making any decision. Cllr Hannington, who recently joined the planning committee, has experience in this field and will assist the planning committee greatly. Cllr Jo Tribley has also recently joined the planning committee.

Photo contest WE continue to invite residents to send in photos for our website home page and at this time of the year there are many beautiful scenes. Any winter scenes will be wel-

come. Photosmust be taken in the village with the location sent to our admin email address above.

Tree sponsors WE would like to thank Bearsted and Thurnham Club and Bearsted Fish Bar for their dona- tion of £50 each towards the Christmas Tree decorations, Maiford Fencing for the fencing at Madginford Tree and Tantons Tree Surgeons for providing the cherry picker free of charge to as- sistwith the lighting.

Council awards for community heroes

BEARSTED Parish Council is once again seeking nominations for local residents who deserve a special award for their efforts within the community. This year will also see the addi-

tion of a youth award. Do you know someone who as-

sistswith selfless acts in the parish anddoesn’t receive the recognition he or she deserves? The annual Mynn Awards acknowledge local people who have made an out- standing contribution to Bearsted, their neighbourhood or helping others on a regular basis. Past recipients have included charity workers,

volunteers,

sportsmen and women and sup- porters of many organisations, in- cluding our churches. This year sees thenewadditional

Youth CommunityAwards. These will allowschools and residents to nominate youngermembers of the

fred Mynn, a Bearsted resident who played first class cricket in Kent during the 19th century, fa- mously scoring a second innings century in 1936 having suffered a broken ankle. We shall also be giving our com-

munity awardcertificates in recog- nition of specific services to the local community. There are several ways to nomi-

communitywho havemade a sig- nificant contribution to their school or club or to the community. The Mynn Awards will be pre-

sented at next year’s annual parish meeting on the evening of May 1, 2019. The judging panel is made up of members of the council and the community. The awards are named after Al-

Take your litter home

WE have a number of volunteers who regularly walk round our village picking up other people’s litter. Although their good work is much ap- preciated, littering is completely unacceptable. The parish council has received a

letter from 13-year-old Edward Evans (pictured), who has been lit- ter picking in the parish. He was amazed at the volume of litter he collected in just one hour. He thought walking the same

route the following weeks would have been easier due to the initial clearance, but he was mistaken. Each week he collects about three to four sacks of rubbish. Why are residents not placing these in one of themany bins around the village or taking themhome to dispose of? If it wasn’t for volunteers we would be in amuch worse position. The parish council wishes to

thank all volunteers for their efforts and appeals once again to residents to encourage people to take their rubbish home with themor dispose of it in the correct way.

nate residents, including calling the parish office for us to fill in the form for you, or emailing your nomination to admin@bearsted- parishcouncil.gov.uk or by con- tacting us through the Bearsted Parish Council website using the online web form or in writing to the parish officewith the details of the nominee, address, your contact details and why this person de- serves aMynnAward. The closing date for nominees is March 1, 2019.
