Inside ICI “Where Did the Time Go?”
themselves the same question every year about this time. As we get older, time seems to move so much faster than when we were younger. Thanksgiving is a time for me to remember all that I have been blessed with during the past year. December allows me to reflect on the past year and to begin planning for 2019. This December is a little more special for me. December 31, 2018 marks the end of my two years serving as President of the Investment Casting Institute’s Board of Directors. Two years of giving back to the industry that I have been a part of for the past 26 years. Two years that I will remember for the rest of my life. So the question I ask myself, “What has made the last two years so memorable?” Working with our Members has

been priceless. The relationships built at Fall Technical Conferences and Spring Management Meetings will last a lifetime. Hosting a Regional Meeting at Kovatch Castings in February 2018 allowed me to continue relationships or build new ones and to continue to give back to our industry. “Thank you Members and Doug Kovatch for allowing me this opportunity.” Serving with the ICI Board of
Directors has been a very humbling experience for me. The men and women that have served on the Board are extremely dedicated to not only their own profession, but to the Membership of the ICI. Countless volunteer hours are given back to the Industry by the Board of Directors. Balancing time with family and work is a challenge for all of us. When you add service to the ICI as an additional variable to manage, it is even more impressive that these individuals are able to do what they do. What I value most about the Board of Directors is that they are great individuals. Individuals that I value, have respect for and work

s 2018 comes to an end, I ask the question “Where did the time go?” I am sure everyone asks
beside through good and difficult times. To all that have served on the Board the past two years, I personally want to say “Thank you.” The ICI has been blessed over
the years with many great Executive Directors. Joe Fritz, our current Executive Director, is certainly no exception to the great Executive Directors that have served before him. It has been an honor to work as President with Joe during the past two years. Joe’s support to the Board, the ICI staff and myself is always 100% plus. Joe is transparent in all of his work and involves the ICI staff and the Board of Directors in all decisions where appropriate. What I admire most about Joe is how he has taken his Engineering expertise and detail and adapted it to books and records of the ICI!! Joe’s service to the Membership is always his top priority and is reflective of how he carries out his day to day responsibilities. My role as President was made much easier by having Joe Fritz as a great Executive Director. “Thank you, Joe.” Men and women over the years
have always heard this quote, “Behind every successful man, there is a woman”. When I look back over my two years as President, I immediately think of six women. Of course, the first is my wife, Lisa, who has supported me as I took on this 6 year journey as Vice President, President and Past President. The other five women are the ICI Staff. Grayce, Nora, Erin, Barb and Margureta. These five individuals are the best of the best. Speaking on behalf of the Board of Directors, Joe Fritz and I, nothing happens without these five individuals. Whether it is the Fall Technical Conference, Spring Management Meeting, Surveys, Member / Non Member visits, Trade Shows, Membership support, web support, running the office, etc., these five individuals are in the middle of it all making sure that things happen with amazing success. express the appreciation that I have for each of them. They perform their roles in a way that makes me very proud of each and every one of them every day. They support our Membership day to day, behind the scenes, to promote the value of being a Member of the ICI. The ICI staff has made my role as President about as easy as it can get. “Ladies, thank you! You are appreciated more than you know.” Now, getting back to my original
question, “What has made my last two years so memorable?” As an organization, we have accomplished a great deal. If you read INCAST monthly or attend ICI events, you know what we have accomplished. Our accomplishments are phenomenal! I do not need to repeat them. Hopefully you experience them every day as a Member of the ICI. I would like to conclude with a quote from McDonald’s co-founder Ray Kroc, “None of Us is As Good As All of Us”. ICI Members, the Board of Directors, our Executive Director and the ICI Staff, all of you together have made my two years as President so memorable. With all of us working together, nothing is impossible. Thanks to each of you for a fantastic two years!
