DIO developing the new Service Families Accommodation contract
Many of you reading this will be currently occupying or have lived in Service Family Accommodation (SFA) at some point during your military career and may therefore be interested to learn that the DIO Future Defence Infrastructure Services (FDIS) Programme has been formed to procure the replacement contracts to manage the infrastructure our Armed Forces rely on to do their jobs effectively. This includes developing the replacement for the National Housing Prime contract for the SFA estate.
The Programme team is looking to learn lessons from the existing contracts and have consulted with a wide range of stakeholders, including leading providers of housing management and maintenance services together with national trade bodies representing the housing-
sector, to ensure the new contracts will meet service requirements. The Service Families Federations’ assistance, in representing service families, has proved invaluable in highlighting the importance of developing a customer-focussed approach to delivering the future service.
The new contracts will look to adopt housing sector best practice and will only be awarded to suppliers who can demonstrate how they will achieve the required levels of customer service expected by service personnel and their families.
One significant change in recent years has been the increased use of mobile technology to communicate with occupants. FDIS will seek to ensure our suppliers deliver innovative solutions to the way in which they communicate with you when, for example, making an appointment. This should hopefully make life easier for you in the future.
The FDIS team are planning to undertake further consultations as they develop the new contract specifications and will be seeking the views of the Service Families Federations before these are finalised. The competition for the new contracts will be initiated in early 2019.
