Until Sunday 24th March 2019 Mining Art Gallery, Bishop Auckland Breaking Ground – Women of the Northern Coalfields The exhibition explores the previously untold stories of women in Victorian mining communities across the region. Artworks, archive images and personal histories from the local area will highlight the tenacious spirit of these women whether fighting to keep their jobs at the colliery or working all hours to keep a roof over their families’ heads. The temporary exhibition also takes place 100 years since some women the in UK were granted the right to vote. 10am – 4pm daily. Last entry – 3.30pm.
