Update on Landway and church car park

Christmas tree

decorations WE WILL be decorating the Christmas tree on the Green in our usual way with lights and gifts and this yearwewill also be lighting up Madginford Christ- mas Tree. Our thanks go to Cllr Jon

Hughes and Vice-chair Fabienne Hughes for arranging these to be decorated and lit. These will be switched on dur-

ing the first week of December, along with the light decorations on lamp posts around the Green. Thanks also go to councillors

who assisted with the decorating of both trees.

Firework date

OUR annual firework display took place on November 2 with a great crowd and was very suc- cessful. Our thanks go to all the coun-

cillors who assisted during the day and in the evening as well as Erin Sugden, our deputy clerk who, although still on maternity leave, came back to organise this wonderful event. We look for- ward to her return in the New Year.

Photo entries

WE ARE still looking for photos for ourwebsite home page and at this time of the year there are many beautiful scenes. Any Christmas scenes will be

welcomed. Photos must be taken in the village with the location sent to our admin email address below.

Planters in the village

OUR planters have now been installed and we look forward to them glowing with colour throughout the seasons. Our thanks go to the volunteerswhowill be looking after them. Bulbs have already been planted for the spring.

Sale of land by Chapel Lane THE land was sold at auction to a resident of Bearsted and is in discussionwith BPC inmoving forward together for its use. BPC bid up to its maximum funds available of £220,000 and

then had to withdraw from further bidding. Updated informa- tion on future proposals can be found on our web site. Inaccurate information has been circulated aswell asmedia as-

sumptions, so we urge you to allow BPC and the new owner to discuss a way forward in the use of the woodland.

Warmemorial THE war memorial sited at Holy Cross church has nowhadworks completed in replacing the cross and fixing the up stand where it sits, at a cost just over £8,500. The effort of chairman Michael

Bollomand our elerk Sarah Lewis in coordinating the repair just in time for Remembrance Sunday, on November 11, was welcomed by all.

Festive closure DURING the festive period the parish offices will be closed from 3pm on Thursday December 20 and re open at 9am on Wednes- day, January 2, 2019.

Maidstone East December 2018 29

NOW the Church Landway footpath is complete, Ashwood Surfacing and Bearsted Parish Council would like to empha- sise that scuff marks, such as those from pedestrians and ve- hicular traffic, are completely normal for thismaterial. The small fines in the material

provide the self-binding compo- nent of the compactedmaterial.

The 10mmaggregate in thema-

terial allows the rain to pass throughwithout the path becom- ing waterlogged. With the rain and the sun, the

material settles itself. It is important to bear in mind

that this material was chosen to be in keepingwith the surround- ings and it provides a cost effec- tive and durable solution.

The parish council will now be

considering tenders for resurfac- ing the Church car park using the same system. Additional drains have been

put in place to take the rainwater away from the entrances to the tennis and bowls clubs, which will now solve the problem of water flowing onto the path areas.
