July 27 and 28 is described by or- ganisers as a “dazzling riot of

colour” using large scale costumes in a collaboration with festival art specialists, ShademakersUK. Students from the University of

the CreativeArts in Rochester and local artists will be drafted in to make the costumes. Castle bosses are bracing them-

Leeds Castle CEO Sir David Steel at the launch of the anniversary celebrations

Recently, Sir David acknowl-

edged a “significant” drop in visi- tor numbers over the summer and has instigated an analysis. He wrote in the Leeds and

Broomfield parish magazine: “I thinkthere are anumberof reasons: poorweather atEaster, followedby a glorious summer when families decided to go to the beach.” He also blamed the introduction

of photographic ID – to prevent local people swapping tickets via social media – as another reason for the decline.
