Helen hoping to clean up at awards ceremony

A CLEANING company inMaid- stone has been nominated for an award in a national business start- up competition, writes Jade Schopman. Helen Brown (28,) of Chamber-

lain Avenue, started her own com- pany, Helen’s Domestic Goddess, after leaving school at 18with poor A-levels, due to bullying. Since her firm started in 2016,

Helen’s Domestic Goddess offers regular domestic cleaning and spring cleans, aswell as carpet and oven cleans. Miss Brown, who lives in a semi-

detached house with her two kit- tens, Tommy and Tessy, is now a finalist in the Start-Up Awards for SideHustle of the Year. Miss Brown said: “It’s so nice to

be recognised for all the hardwork I have put in. I started the business about three years ago after com- pleting a Business Enterprise Coursewith The Prince’s Trust, and now I’m the founder of my own company.”

The former Invicta Grammar

School pupil described her dad,Al- istair Brown, as her main inspira- tion in the industry, as he created his own successful garden mainte- nance firm.Miss Brown will be at- tending the awards ceremony at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington onWednesday, November 21. She said: “It’s so exciting to be in the

same category as big businesses who have been in such hugemaga- zines like GQ and have been doing this a lot longer than I have. I was so shocked to be nominated, as I am a small local cleaning company against these big brands. Itwill be a good night, I just can’t believe I am a finalist!” Helen’s Domestic Goddess is up

against six other impressive com- panies, who have similarly started their businesses fromscratch. The winner will be judged by a

collection of iconic entrepreneurs including Simon Broughton, head of business banking at RBS; Henry Faure Walker, chief executive of Newsquest; Cath Kidston MBE, founder and creative director of Cath Kidston Limited; and David Buttress, CEO of JUST EAT.
