Losses William “Bill” Harwood, 78,


Pilot Point, passed away in his sleep September 21 after battling several ail- ments. He trained Arabian horses in Texas and Colorado. In 1970 he was the first to be named English Pleasure Open National Champion on Bonjour, owned by the Christiansen family. In 2007, Region 9 AHA recognized him with the Lifetime Achievement Award. His caring and fun-loving per- sonality will be greatly missed.


Dual Pep went to greener pastures


September 25, with Winston Hansma by his side. The 33-year-old stallion ranks 5th on NCHA’s All-Time Lead- ing Sires list. He’s the only one of the top 5 with a son on the list, and that’s the late Dual Rey, in third.


Utah Vardell, 77, Texarkana, AR,


died suddenly September 25. He was a longtime NCHA member and his fun-loving and generous personality will be greatly missed.


Rachel Wells, 30, Denton, died


due to cancer September 27. She was enrolled in North Central TX Col- lege’s Equine Science program until illness interfered, and she had excelled at horse shows across the state.


Nitas Wood was laid to rest Octo-


ber 4 at the home of owners Mike and Tammy Jones of Over Forty Ranch, Wichita Falls. The 1995 stallion was a leading cutting horse sire, one of the Equi-Stat Elite, a $6 Million Sire. w
