FROM THE EDITOR

This time of year always puts me in a pensive mood. As the year winds down I reflect on past

accomplishments and

future goals. Love, loss, and new opportunities marked an unforgettable 2018 for me. Some days I struggled to get by but thankfully, all worked out for the best in the end.

When I look around, I see new beginnings everywhere. The City

of Dallas just released a draft of their Cultural Plan whose purpose is to create equity and increase diversity in our creative communities through support, new performance venues and widening channels of communication—all which combined, will create a booming arts eco system. The plan is creating a buzz around town and it gives me a feeling of hopefulness that we’re finally being heard.

New beginnings include members of our own dance family. Melissa Young, formerly the interim artistic director, has now been officially named the Artistic Director of Dallas Black Dance Theatre! Her years of experience as both a dancer and administrator for the company are sure to make her an outstanding leader.

Another new company, B. Moore Dance created by Bridgette Moore, has recently emerged on the Dallas dance scene. Moore has a proven track record as an innovative and cutting-edge choreographer and has earned national and international recognition. I can’t wait to see the exciting work her company will produce.

As always, I want to thank each of you for contributing to Dance Council of North Texas and hope you continue to do so. Our outstanding events and programs would not be possible without your support.
