FOCUS & me lets members share their experience of what it means to be part of our community.
A year ag, just at the start of the school year, my family and I arrived in London. It was a very busy month of September with the whole organisation linked
to the children's school. When the children were settled, I was very happy to find things to do for myself and I attended my first FOCUS seminar where I had the pleasure of meeting several people who were in the same situation as me. It was very comforting for me to meet and talk with these charming people, and sharing our different experiences as expatriates over coffee made me realize that what I was experiencing was not so uncommon.
Te warm welcome of the FOCUS team made me want to sign up for several events they were organising. I greatly appreciated the attention and listening that the Executive Director, Alessandra Gnudi, gave me when I had my one-to-one meeting and I felt comfortable asking her all the questions I had, especially for information on life in London. Her advice and sharing of her personal experience made me appreciate all the positive things this city has to offer.
Te seminars organised by FOCUS that I attended were very interesting and very useful as many covered subjects relevant for newcomers in the UK. For instance, many of the career development topics allowed me to stay connected to the professional world.

Te biggest relief for me has been seeing my children able to resume their extracurricular activities that they loved so much in our previous home. In this particular area, the FOCUS team was very supportive and efficient as they quickly shared the links and contacts I needed to enroll them in their favourite extracurricular activities such as athletics and ballet. FOCUS also put me in touch with an amazing piano teacher that my children love.
I have always enjoyed FOCUS activities and plan to continue to do so this year too!
