Choral Music Reviews
Health and Safety Alan Bullard Oxford University Press Voice Junction Series Voicing – Available for SSA, Cambiata Choir, and SATB with piano $4.10
Duration: approx. 5:00
This three-movement suite is an entertaining set of compositions. Ideally, I think they work best as a set since each movement is relatively short. They are better suited for experienced choirs due to the tonal challenges as well as changing meter and rhythmic challenges. That being stated, the text is set to a natural rhythmic feel with appropriate comedic timing.

a soloist that is skilled in singing gospel, pop, or R&B. In addition to the appropriately stylized piano accompaniment, the arrangers strongly recommend including electric bass and drums. Also, the inclusion of a horn section “brings the celebratory nature of this piece to the forefront,” as stated by the publisher.
Stabat Mater (from Passion Music) Will Todd Oxford University Press Published 2018 8 pages - $3.25 VOICING – SATB divisi With soloist, piano, upright bass Duration: approx. 5:10
Passion Music is a 40-minute work that highlights selected moments in the Passion story. Continuing the success of fusing jazz and choral music in Mass in Blue, British composer Will Todd crafts an exquisite work, originally written for the Choir at St. Martin-in- the-Fields. Stabat Mater is available as an octavo and it is also available for SSA choir. The Stabat Mater is truly stunning, and will be a concert favorite for both ensemble and audience.
William J. Powell serves as Professor of Music and director of choral activities at Auburn University. He conducts the Chamber Choir, Men’s Chorus, Concert Choir, and Gospel Choir, and teaches choral-related courses.
