Don’t want smoke in your lungs? Try vaporizing your cannabis
Marshall Posner How to Choose the Right Vaporizer? If you’ve
learned about the basics of vaporizing cannabis and are interested in purchasing a vaporizer of your own, you’ll quickly learn there are literally dozens of different options available. While the number of different brands and available options can be overwhelming at first, once you learn a little about the range of features that different vaporizers offer, the process to figure the best vaporizer to satisfy your needs becomes much clearer. Your first decision is to determine a budget for this
purchase. Vaporizers can range in price from $75 up- wards to $750, depending on the features, brand, and style that you choose. Your second decision will be choosing between a portable or desktop model. Portable or Desktop? Tere is no objectively right
or wrong answer to this question, as it all depends on how and where you plan to be doing the majority of your vaporizing. Portable units are designed with high-powered re-chargeable batteries that allow them to be used without being plugged in. Some are light and durable, making them great for use while on the go. Others are bigger or contain glass components, making them better for easy use around the house in a stationary location Stationary vaporizers, which are also called desktop
units, have to be plugged in to be used. Tey are bigger than their portable counterparts, but this allows for more sophisticated designs that help improve vapor quality. Heating chambers on stationary vaporizers are also much larger, which means they can create more vapor from a single session. If you’ll likely be using your vaporizer in the same place each time, at home for example, this is a great option. Features to Look For Temperature Flexibility. Tere is a very wide range of
temperatures at which cannabis vaporization can take place. Towards the lower end of the range, vapor is lighter and less noticeable as you inhale. Tis is great for people

with sensitive throats. Te higher end of the range will deliver denser vapor with more visible clouds. Worth not- ing is that taste will subtly change throughout the various vaporizing temperatures as well. By getting a vaporizer with a high degree of temperature flexibility, you’ll be able to experiment and find what style suits you best. Convection Versus Conduction. Tere are two different
types of heating that you’ll find in vaporizers, convection and conduction. Convection heating occurs when hot air
passes through your cannabis, while conduction oc- curs when your cannabis is heated by direct contact with a hot surface. Most users prefer convection heat- ing because it delivers even heating with a lower risk of combustion. Battery Life. If you’re going with a portable vapor-
izer, take a look at the type of battery and how long you need it to last between charges. Te average is between 1.5 and 2 hours of continuous use, so something in that range is good. Anything above 2 hours is exceptional. Some units also feature removable batteries, which
gives you the option of purchasing extras to swap in as soon as your first battery dies. Tis can easily double the amount of time you’re able to go between each charging. Another feature you may see is called ‘pass-through charging.’ Tis simply means that the vaporizer can still be used while it’s being charged. Materials. Te materials used in the construction of
your vaporizer can make a big difference in the overall quality of your product. While some people dislike plastic exteriors, many of the best vaporizers on the market have at least some plastic incorporated into their overall design, so don’t let this discourage you from picking one that you like. Ceramic heating elements are good because they help distribute the heat evenly, and glass vapor pathways are popular to preserve flavour and taste. Chamber Size. Te size of the heating chamber will
directly affect how much dried cannabis you can use, which will also affect the length of each session. If you prefer long sessions or intend to use your vaporizer with friends and family, then you’ll want to make sure that
the heating chamber in the vaporizer you buy can hold enough cannabis for your needs. If you have any additional questions or need help choos-

Say yes to NO, the Miracle Molecule W
hen I founded Aviva Natural Health Solutions eighteen years ago, my primary focus was to of-
fer research-based dietary, supplement, exercise and lifestyle recommenda- tions that could help people achieve optimum health. As a new business owner,
I attended various industry events to meet the manu- facturers, distributors, and suppliers of natural health products in Canada. At my first trade show in 2001 I met a well-known health professional who was in his 60s, but looked and acted like a much younger man. He inspired me to start my day with a super green food powder, an organic for- mula containing powdered grasses, a variety of veg- etables and fruits, powerful antioxidants, microalgae, and probiotics. I started blending a tablespoon of
greens into a glass of water and drinking first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I quickly realized that my en- ergy levels were off the charts, without the jitters that can follow a cup of coffee. I also noticed another benefit, related to a more personal issue that men seeking health advice are frequently looking to address. Te causes can vary, but one of the primary reasons men visit health stores is for information on how they can put more “lead in their pencil.” While I didn’t know the scientific reason why drinking a green juice in the morning had this effect on me, I would recom- mend it to every man who asked me for advice on this particular issue, and would often receive a glowing review and thank you, sometimes within a few days. Packed with nutrition, there are many health benefits to taking a green superfood drink beyond helping in the bedroom. About ten years ago, I learned about nitric oxide (chemical formula NO), a gas

that acts as a signaling molecule in the cardiovascular system. NO was named “Molecule of the Year” in 1992 by the American Association for the Advance- ment of Science, and the Nobel Prize in 1998 was awarded to three scientists who identified the critical importance of NO in achieving optimum health. Valentin Fuster, M.D., Ph.D., president of the American Heart Associat ion, said: “the discovery of nitric oxide and its function is one of the most important in the history of cardiovascular medicine.” NO is a colourless gas,

produced by the one-cell- thick lining of our arteries, veins, and heart called the endothelium. Production of NO by the endothelium regulates circulation and
blood vessel dilation by relaxing the ves- sels' smooth muscles. Tere isn't a single disease that is not affected by NO produc- tion, which is foundational to how the body works. NO not only provides car- diovascular benefits; it also stimulates the brain and supports the elimination of potential threats like bacteria, fungi, viruses, parasites, and other infectious agents. NO helps white blood cells defend against tumors and cancer cell prolifera- tion, maintains gastric mucosal integrity, helps prevent ulcerative colitis, regulates blood pressure, controls blood flow, and plays an important role in our sense of smell. Nitrates from foods and supplements
are converted by bacteria on the tongue into nitrites. Nitrites are then converted into NO by the endothelium to work its vasodilation magic, boosting circulation by widening blood vessels and decreas- ing blood pressure. When I learned how nitric oxide was
produced in the body I understood why super green food drinks had benefits in the bedroom, as grasses and green (as
well as some red) vegetables are high in nitrates. Arugula, beets, kale, spinach, and Swiss chard are some of the best food sources of nitrates. Te medical term for the inability to
attain and maintain an erection is called erectile dysfunction (ED). Te discovery of NO and its key circulatory role in the body resulted in the development of drugs designed to cure ED called PDE5 inhibitors, including sildenafil (Viagra). While these drugs do work in some cases, about 50% of men don't receive the expected benefits, and PDE5 inhibi- tors have potentially dangerous adverse effects including blindness, facial flush- ing, rhinitis, indigestion, hearing loss, tinnitus, and loss of smell. The primary causes of ED include:
physical health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, MS, and Parkinson’s disease; psychological issues like anxiety or lack of desire; prescription drugs; and endothelial dysfunction, which I call the “other ED.” Endothelial dysfunction is caused by low levels of NO, which dis- rupts the biochemical processes carried out by the endothelium that are critical to producing an erection. NO levels decrease with age; a 40-year-
old has about half the levels of a 20-year- old. Insufficient NO levels are associated with hypertension, diabetes, atheroscle- rosis, glaucoma, macular degeneration, Raynaud’s disease, diabetic neuropathy, thrombosis, Alzheimer’s disease (vas- cular dementia), chronic inflammation, poor wound healing, and erectile dys- function. Restoring youthful levels of NO brings incredible, long-lasting health benefits, as improved circulation and oxygenation affect all parts of the body. Te amino acid L-arginine has long
been recommended as a solution for curing ED. However, new research has shown that it is often ineffective and pos- sibly dangerous for men over 40, or are in the developing stages of cardiovascular dysfunction. Tanks to the research by Nathan Bry- an, Ph.D., from the University of Texas,

there are scientifically proven methods of increasing NO levels using natural products like beetroot, hawthorn berry, and L-citrulline (an amino acid that is a precursor to L-arginine). Hawthorn showed the most robust and effective nitrate activity of over 400 foods and 100 herbs tested. Dr. Bryan developed Neo40, a completely natural lozenge that increases NO levels while restoring the enzyme the body needs to produce it. After seven successful peer-reviewed clinical trials, Neo40 was made available to the public. In addition to hawthorn berry, L-
citrulline, nitrate-rich vegetables and green food drinks, I recommend com- plementary herbal supplements that can improve the efficiency of NO conversion. Often found in products designed to improve sexual function, helpful herbs include Pycnogenol, Tribulus terrestris, Panax ginseng, Ginkgo biloba, fennel seed, and epimedium (horny goat weed). A healthy prostate gland is also re-
quired for peak sexual performance, as an enlarged prostate not only encumbers the flow of urine into the urethra; it can also block the flow of seminal fluid. For men experiencing prostate problems, my first recommendation is a prostate mas- sager, proven to improve lower urinary tract symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate (BPH) and chronic prostatitis. Helpful foods and supplements include Styrian pumpkin seed oil, zinc, stinging nettle, cranberry, plant sterols, rice bran solubles, DIM (diindolylmethane), rye flower pollen extract, saw palmetto, and pygeum. As cardiovascular disease is the num-
ber one killer of men and women, a diet high in nitrates is extremely important. Research indicates that restoring NO pro- duction can improve many of the 400+ risk factors associated with cardiovas- cular disease. Supplements like Neo40 can help increase NO levels, alleviate the symptoms of erectile dysfunction, and reduce the negative effects of that other ED, endothelial dysfunction.
