THE Church Landway project has been completed. The parish council has replaced


the old path, which was uneven and continually flooded, with a newly constructed pathway from Ashford Road to the church. The gate and pillars have been


Market delay


THERE will be a delay in the re- introduction of the Market on the Green until a market manager is appointed. Since our report last month, the


parish council is disappointed that an offer of the position has been de- clined, causing a delay while the recruitment process is re-started. However, there are plans to put


together amarket beforeChristmas and relaunch the fullmarket on the fourth Sunday of each month by Spring 2019. The parish council has also de-


cided that the eventwill be fenced, with an entrance each side and a donation required for entry to fulfil licencing laws imposed byMBC. Acharitywill be chosenmonthly


to receive entry donations andwill be responsible formanning the en- trances on the day.


Paybackwork


MUCH work has been undertaken by participants of the Community Payback Scheme each Sunday, under thewatchful eye ofCllr Ben- nett. Many of the village pathways


have been cleared of undergrowth and the village will continue to benefit fromthisweekly service for the foreseeable future. If there are any areas that you


feel need attention, please contact the parish office or email the admin address below, with full details and a photograph where possible, and the council will consider in- cluding it for attention.

THE parish council has been inmeetingswithHighways England regarding proposed closures of theM20 for essential works. Suggestions for signagewith regards to a diversion to reduce ve-


hicles, and especiallyHGVs, cutting through our village have been well received. Roundwell had cones laid out to preventHGVturning, aswell as


No Access signs along the approach and at the entrance. Yeoman Lane was alsomarked with no access signs. Bearsted Parish Council is hopeful that these measures are suc-


cessful andwill continue tomonitor closures andworkwithHigh- ways England to reduce access caused by the closure of theM20 in future. Assurances have been received that HGVs attending the site works on theM20 will not be using the village for access.


Children make the most of


scheme THE annual playscheme was once again very successful, and was attended by some 800 children fromthe village. Our thanks go to


Amanda and her team of supervisors, who made each day enjoy- able for all. Football, tennis,


painting, games, arts and crafts and a cinema day with popcorn were just some of the activities on offer over the summer holiday.

Musical hall fun at school


FOR the third consecutive year Bearsted Parish Council is pleased to welcome back the Players The- atre group for an afternoon of old timemusic hall tradition. The eventwill be held at 3.30pm


on Saturday, October 13. Due to overwhelming popularity previ- ously, this eventwill be held at In- victa Grammar


School in


Maidstone this year, which is bet- ter equipped and has appropriate facilities. Coach transport will be pro-


vided to and fromthe venue, with pick-up points opposite the Co-op in Egremont Road and the bus stop on the village Green. Tickets are free, and priority will be given to the older members of the Bearsted Community. This event is organised by Cllr

Booklet THE information booklet is now complete, aftermonths of collating information. The parish council wishes to


thank all advertisers for their val- ued support as well as the many hours of work by the parish office admin team to obtain the village business names and contact details for insertion. Distribution of the booklet will


be carried out during September. It is hoped that as well as being a useful resource for residents, it will help to support local busi- nesses.
