Partnership’s 20 years of helping the community
SNODLAND Partnership, which helps to fund and support bodies which make the town a better place to live in, is almost two decades old. The partnership, which cele-
brates its 20th anniversary in 2019, has funded this summer’s hanging baskets, which help to lend a splash of colour around the community.. Tonbridge & Malling Borough
Council, Snodland Town Council and Lafarge Cement started the partnership in 1999. Over the years, members have
included Berkeley Homes, Tren- port Investments, Tarmac, Smurfit Kappa Townsend Hook, Snod- land Chamber of Commerce, the Co-op, Southern Housing and The Holmesdale School. The partnership has spent
thousands of pounds on the en- hancement of the town centre. It has also, throughout its time,
provided a police office, funded a police community support officer (PCSO) and also supports the town’s Citizens’ Advice service. Many more clubs and organi-
sations, churches, schools and pre-schools have also benefited
Visitors welcomed to bowls open day
A FUN bowling competition open to existing members and visitors took place at Townsend Hook Bowls Club’s open day and, together with refreshments, raised over £260 for club funds. Member Nick Scott said: “The
weather was superb and a number of potential bowlers came along to see what the game is about. “Lawn bowls is an excellent ex-
cuse for getting out, staying active and making new friends. It is rela- tively inexpensive, does not require huge levels of fitness and is played by men and women, young and old.” Nick told Town Talk that therewere
a number of other activities on in Snodland on the day, so anybody who could not make the open day is welcome on any Tuesday at 2pm during the bowling season. The club is looking for new mem-

Residentsmark 40th anniversary
RECTORY Close, the sheltered housing accommodation at Roc- fort Road, Snodland, has cele- brated its 40th anniversary. Residents were entertained by
the Spare Parts group, and man- ager Kay Hardy said they thor- oughly enjoyed a sing song. Janice Browne, the chairman of the Housing Committee at Ton-
bridge & Malling District Council, opened the home on July 19 1978. Joyce Asquith, the original war-
den who retired in 1997, has lived at Rectory Close ever since. Now aged 86, Joyce said: “I en-
joyed every day I worked here. I learned so much from the lovely people who lived here.”

Scouts off to US jamboree
TWO Explorers from Snodland Scout Group will be attending the 24th World Scout Jamboree in America in 2019. Becky Denny, of Cuxton, and
Jack Bezant, of Coleridge Close, Larkfield, will be among the Malling District Scouts at the Jam- boree, which is being held at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia, USA. Becky and Jack are pictured at
the Snodland Scouts stall at the Summer Fayre at Holborough Lakes, Snodland. They have to raise almost £4,000 each for the trip to America, where they will meet Scouts from all over the world. The money covers their costs
plus the costs of Scouts fromless well-off countries who will be at- tending.
