News KingsHill fire


TRAFFIC was disrupted in the Kings Hill area after a car caught fire. The incident happened at the


roundabout leading to the M20 in the evening of July 23. Witnesses reported seeing a car


“explode” into flames with nearby grass and vegetation catching light. There were fears the parched


grass and vegetation would ignite quickly, but the blaze was quickly brought under control byKent Fire & Rescue Service. It is not thought anyone was in- jured in the fire.

LEYBOURNE Lakes Country Park is among this year’s national Green FlagAwardwinners,mak- ing the grade for the 12th year on the trot to become one of the best parks in the UK. The 230-acre park, between


Snodland and Larkfield, near the HamHill roundabout,was created fromformer gravelworkings, and is dominated by a series of lakes. The park has become popular


among walkers and water sport enthusiasts, and for its children’s play area. It also has parking and toilets on site. The park is among 1,883 parks


and green spaces to receive the na- tional award from Keep Britain Tidy,which announced this year’s recipients on July 16. The park is managed and main-
