Scoil Phadraig wins RIAI Best Educational Building award

he new school in Westport which was installed with a 2,300m² Bauder Thermofol roof has been recognised at
contribution of Irish architects to the society. Scoil Phadraig under the project name of ‘New School in Town’ was nominated in the Public Choice Award for the best building in Ireland for which it was voted 2nd
and was
awarded Best Educational Building. The architectural team from Simon J Kelly
and Partners was led by Dermot McCabe and Elaine Naughton, who have previously completed the award winning Oughterard National School project in 2014, which also featured a Bauder Thermofol roof. Their strikingly modern and light filled design with 16 classrooms, a general-purpose room and ancillary accommodation provides all the features needed to enhance the children’s learning and to allow the teachers to set high standards of education. Another eye-catching aspect of the building
is its 2,300m² roof. The Bauder Thermofol PVC system, which was installed by approved contractors Priority Roofing & Cladding Ltd, provides an aesthetical finish to the building
Technal specified for university
The University of Lincoln has invested £19m in the construction of the Sarah Swift Building, which is now home to the Schools of Health and Social Care and Psychology. Working with BAM Construction North East and Glasshus, Technal supplied its MX Visible Grid curtain walling, PY 55 doors
and FY 65 windows to the project, specified due to their versatility and aesthetic qualities. MX Visible Grid curtain walling offers design flexibility. Available in a choice of glazing gaskets, it achieves superior load distribution and is suitable for flat or faceted facades.

Joseph Leckie Academy has replaced outmoded and poor performing accommodation with its three-storey construction, to provide an energy efficient build, with the help of the Kingspan OPTIM-R Rainscreen System. To ensure the building achieved a high level of thermal of the Kingspan OPTIM-R Rainscreen Cladding
System within the perforated aluminium feature window pod locations and 675 m2
of the Kingspan Kooltherm K15 Rainscreen Board was
installed to the main wall elevations by sub-contractors, Sky Green Ltd, creating a warmer, more comfortable learning environment.

in addition to a strong waterproofing system, resistant to the Irish climate. Following a final inspection, Bauder were able to provide a 20-year guarantee for the entire roof.

Prater delivering roofing package
Prater is currently delivering a complete roofing package for the Centre Buildings of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Appointed by Mace, the project is part of a £120 million redevelopment programme and is due for completion in April 2019. Work
is already underway and Prater’s scope of works includes installing inverted waterproofing systems to all terraces and roof levels. As part of the roofing package, Prater will also provide a variety of bespoke planter systems for a number of terrace levels.

‘Ruckus’ is KI’s innovative seating collection that redefines the boundaries of learning environments. It is a unique approach to the concept of ‘active learning’ as it enables the user to rotate 360 degrees within the chair so that they can quickly pivot and reorient themselves to where their attention is needed. The backrest offers support and comfort, but also functions as integrated armrests, or for
perching on at standing height. The collection includes task, 4-leg and stack chairs, and stools in two height options.
