Award-winners and nominees who responded to the challenge for Breast Cancer Care Kent
Castle rewards teams for breast cancer campaign
BUSINESSES from the area who stepped up to the £1,000 challenge for Breast Cancer Kent have been rewarded for their fund-raising efforts at Leeds Castle. The challenge raised £18,800,
with businesses from Maidstone, KingsHill, Snodland,Harrietsham and the castle all taking part. Leeds Castle, which has sup-
ported the charity for several years, played host to the awards presen- tation, attended by nominees, char- ity trustees, guests andwinners. The trustees of the charity – all
consultants atMaidstone and Tun- bridge Wells Hospital Trust –
spoke of the pressure on funding and thanked those taking part for raising the money, which will go towards the care of local patients. The largest amount was raised
by the ladies fromBusiness Legacy Ltd, which holds the KentWomen in Business Awards and Kent Health and Beauty Awards. They raised £5,400 from award dinners, raffles and donations.Hilary Steel, Sue Smith, Trisha Wood and Gill Huntley received the award. Staff from Leeds Castle – the
Leeds Castle Lovelies – sold cakes, held a staff disco and trekked to the top of Snowdon to collect £4,100.

ordinator for Kent, Helen Teare, said: “Itwas really lovely to seeHi- lary and Sue declared thewinners. They have spent years staging award ceremonies, but thiswas the first time they’vewon a trophy.” Also completing the £1,000 chal-

Body found
AMANhas been found dead in the centre ofMaidstone. Kent Police cordoned off the area
around Jubilee Square at 8.45amon July 19, and flowers were left in his memory. It is understood the man may have been a rough sleeper. A statement said: “The death is
not being treatedas suspicious anda report will be completed for the coroner.”
