Dennis Stanfield It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Dennis Stanfield. Dennis was a long- standing committee member in the Midlands of the predecessors to BIFA (The Institute of Shipping & Forwarding Agents and The Institute of Freight Forwarders). From the 1970s, Dennis was a

BIFA Members flock to CDS implementation roadshows
Next year sees the implementation of the new Customs Declaration Service (CDS), a result of the implementation of the UCC. BIFA Members the length and breadth of the UK have been flocking to the recent series of CDS Seminars jointly organised by ASM (UK) Ltd, BIFA and HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to receive information relating to the forthcoming changeover from CHIEF to CDS for customs declarations. Part of the role of these seminars is to increase our Members’ knowledge of the CDS and also to act as a
channel for communication between all parties involved in the customs activity, including brokers, HMRC, IT providers, etc. The audience, via lively question and answer
sessions, are highlighting their concerns regarding many aspects of the new system. These are being collated into relevant headings to be sent to HMRC for answering. All answers will be published on the three organisations’ websites for reference. Further information is provided by HMRC in an article published on page 16 of this issue of BIFAlink.

he became manager of Association member Midland Forwarding at the time when European services where evolving from rail ferry wagons to trailers and containerisation, which he recognised required fundamental changes in the industry approach to education and training. He will be remembered by
those who benefited from the training provided on behalf of the industry by Freight Forwarders Training Association (Midlands), which Dennis ran for some years. Many will have received
certificates in the grandeur of the Lord Mayor’s Chambers at Birmingham Town Hall or participated in the port or airport trips he arranged.
BIFA is grateful to Roger Kagan and Clive Savigar – both ex Chairs of the Midlands Region – for their assistance in preparing this obituary.
