Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

Managers and employees who might be exposed to people having thoughts of suicide, caregivers, adults and youth. 18 years+


Training summary


ASIST prepares participants to provide suicide first-aid intervention in many situations. It provides knowledge to recognise when someone may be at risk of suicide and how to respond to increase their immediate safety and refer them to appropriate help.


safeTALK


Half day (4 hours)


Employees who might be exposed to people having thoughts of suicide. 18 years+


safeTALK prepares participants to recognise signs of people who may be having trouble coping with crisis or emotional pain. Participants are prepared to take action to connect vulnerable people with life-saving intervention resources.


Suicide TALK


1-1.5 hours All employees, contractors, general public. 18 years+


suicideTALK explores issues and attitudes in suicide prevention. The program is designed to educate and enable participants to create a suicide-safer workplace and community.

Provides valuable skills to managers and employees, requires no formal training or experience in mental health. 18 years+


Participants learn to provide MHFA to a person who is developing a mental health problem, or in a mental health crisis, until professional treatment is received. Covers suicidal thoughts and behaviours; self-injury; panic attacks; traumatic events; severe effects of drug or alcohol use; severe psychotic states and aggressive behaviours.


Employees who encounter people in crisis in their work roles and workplace environment. 18 years+


Accidental counsellors often find themselves in a counselling role by accident. This workshop provides practical and effective skills to step into the shoes of a counsellor and be able to support others when they’re angry, distressed or experiencing a challenging time.


Employees in public contact roles, in front line positions or dealing with other organisations. 18 years+


Provides valuable skills to managers and employees, requires no formal training or experience in mental health. 18 years+


Participants are prepared to respond to people who are displaying challenging behaviour, such as distress, anger or talking about the possibility of suicide or homicide. It is designed for anyone dealing with the public, in front line positions or dealing with other organisations.


In the workplace, employees will likely encounter individuals experiencing mental illness and not knowing how to respond can cause stress. Participants learn to recognise and respond appropriately to common mental health concerns.
