FUN Activity Sessions for Pre- school aged Children, 10.30am to 12noon on the second and fourth Mondays of each month during term times at St Michael’s Church Centre, Martlesham Heath, IP5 3PL. Youngsters of 0 to 5 years old, would you like a fun start to your week? If so, come along to Bright Stars with your parents, grandparents, friends, family and/or carers. These mornings are free and usu- ally involve singing, games, making crafts to take home and telling stories from the Bible for the first half hour. We then have refreshments when the adults can chat and the children can play until approximately 12noon. You are welcome to come


along to any of our mornings, just turn up, no need to let us know in advance. We look for- ward to seeing you! The remaining Summer Term

Woodbridge Museum Afternoon Talks


THE May talk for the Friends of Woodbridge Museum was about the twin National Trust sites in Coggeshall; Paycockes and the Grange Barn. Paycockes is a fine example of a 16th Century mer- chants house, with impressive carvings and panelling. Thomas Buxton, who built the house was one of the many wealthy cloth merchants of the time. Ros Gur- ling traced the history of the house from riches to rags to its rescue from demolition in the 20th Century. The National Trust continued the restoration of the house which is now pre- sented to illustrate the different lives of the house and garden. We were also introduced to


the impressive 13th century monastic barn, cared for by the National Trust. This Grade I listed building was built by the Cistercians in the 13th century to serve Coggeshall Abbey and it underwent significant structural alteration in the 14th century. In July we have a visit to


Coggeshall to see the full glory of these properties for ourselves. We also heard the welcome


news that a team of volunteers have been able to start on deco- rating and fitting up the new museum. For further information on the

THE May meeting saw the Deben Probus Club being enter- tained by Sarah E Doig on the subject of her recent book “The A-Z of Curious Suffolk.” The meeting was well supported with over 30 members attending. The book, as the title suggests,


discusses the strange stories, mysteries and crimes associated with the county of Suffolk com- piled in alphabetical order start- ing with “A” for adultery and


ending in “Z” for Zeppelin. Time did not allow for the whole alphabet to be covered. The Deben Probus club is a
