Optiseller partners with GS1 to boost the power of the Barcode

One of the key challenges facing online retailers, marketplaces, brands and customers is missing, inaccurate or false Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) – the unique number commonly found within a barcode. This problem could become a thing of the past thanks to a new partnership between leading ecommerce developer Optiseller and GS1 UK, the world’s largest source of trusted product information data. GTINs perform an essential role in identifying and classifying the millions of consumer products that are manufactured annually. Manufacturers create unique GTINs for each product they make via GS1 globally and making the management and tracking of inventory an accurate, up to date and automated process. The sale of counterfeit goods is a huge problem worldwide; according to the International Trademark Association it is a £460 billion annual market. Amazon and Google have been leading the way in combating this online by mandating the presence of product identifiers in order to sell on their platforms. Through using the correct GTIN, retailers are easily able to validate the authenticity of the goods they sell online, ensuring that consumers can buy with absolute confidence. Optiseller now allows online retailers to check their GTINs

across all eBay listings without any manual effort in the Optiseller eBay store performance dashboard. The Optiseller dashboard automatically identifies and displays any listings that do not include a GTIN as well as listings that include an incorrect GTIN. Users can then export the listing ID of the SKUs without GTINs or with incorrect GTINs to excel for further analysis and resolution. This packs a powerful punch alongside the regular

review of listings in the Optiseller dashboard that help sellers to improve the quality, accuracy and completeness of their data in line with best practice and policies. Craig MacCallum, CEO, Optiseller said:

Craig MacCallum, CEO, Optiseller

“We have worked closely with GS1 UK to develop this powerful new enhancement to the Optiseller platform. Up until now dealing with missing or incorrect GTINs has been a major challenge for online retailers. Our tool can save ecommerce sellers huge amounts of time and money by automating the process of ensuring their GTIN data is accurate and up

to date. By making that data accessible to every marketplace, brand and retailer interested in ensuring an authentic and appealing online sale, it’s another push back against a counterfeit world and provides a much better customer experience.” For those seeking further detail, Optiseller also offers a dedicated GS1 UK report explaining the reason why a GTIN used in their listing has been identified as being incorrect and will be shortly followed by a recommendation of which GTIN should be used where it is not present. In combination with the updated dashboard, this report takes both guesswork and legwork out of correctly identifying products listed for sale. Unfortunately, there are still many businesses selling online

today without GTINs or, worse still, using incorrect GTINs; this can cause huge problems for retailers, brands and marketplaces. Some of the issues that this can cause are: conflicting product and price information, poor search ranking and product discovery (particularly on 3rd party marketplaces), duplicate product listings / ads, higher consumer return rates and increased customer complaints. All of which often leads to a poor customer experience and inevitably eroding margins.

Proact selected by Samhall for Office 365 migration

Data centre and cloud specialist Proact has been selected by Samhall AB, Sweden’s largest state-owned enterprise, to support its migration from managed email servers to a cloud-based Office 365 platform. Samhall has also opted for Proact’s Service Management for Office 365, which means the organisation will receive information and advice from certified experts to optimise daily operations and to provide customised updates for the Office 365 environment. The migration project to transition to Office 365 spanned

across multiple months. Utilising a phased approach, the installation began with testing and pilot projects, which were carried out using different user categories. The key objective was to conduct the migration transparently, without interrupting the 3,000 users or the 60,000 messages that are transferred daily at Samhall. Proact has previously hosted and managed Samhall’s email servers, and has assisted the professional service provider with designing and seamlessly implementing the new IT environment. “Proact has been a good advisor and helped us shape our

standardised environment where we now place workloads in the cloud, whenever that is possible,” says Odd Ingvarsson, IT Infrastructure Manager at Samhall. Samhall’s incentives for choosing Office 365 concern economical as well as functional reasons. One reason is that email, as well as many other applications, is much easier to access in the cloud. Only a fraction of Samhall’s 24,000 employees use computers at work which means that Office 365, and the mobile device apps which the platform provides, provide all staff with access to Samhall’s intranet for business-critical company information. “For Proact, it has always been essential that we combine

our role as an IT advisor with the role as a supplier. This way of thinking is increasingly important in today’s landscape where many customers are facing critical and complex decisions relating to their cloud strategy. Our commitment to Samhall and its migration project illustrates how Proact is evolving in tune with the market and customer needs,” says Anders Lerjestam, Managing Director at Proact MCS AB in Sweden.
