ETKA West Africa’s new EPC contract with the
Nigerian government to develop mini-grid solutions for four of Nigeria’s federal universities and university teaching hospitals across the country is a key development. The new grids will provide
uninterrupted power to their facilities and give them total autonomy from the main electricity grid. At least 9.3 MW of PV and 5,760 battery cells will be deployed in the development which includes providing power generation plants, street lighting and training centres, as well as operation and maintenance services. The deal has been struck

Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Power and the Rural Electrifi- cation Agency (REA). All four universities hope to
be be powered by hybrid power plants using renewable energy sources integrated with energy storage and diesel generation as back-up, enabling reliable power supply for the universi- ties totally autonomously from the grid. In total, 7.5MW of off-grid
hybrid power will be installed, incorporating the award

winning EXERON technology and the latest developments in mini-grid design. Vangelis Kamaris, CEO of
METKA Power West Africa, explains: “We are very pleased to be able to support REA in their Energizing Education initiative and we are committed to continuously support the energy needs of Nigeria and its people. This first off-grid/hybrid project for MYTILINEOS in Africa is a landmark project, confirming the strategic expansion of the company’s activities in the off-grid hybrid space, while at the same time capitalising on our established presence in the region." Damilola Ogun-
biyi, MD/CEO of REA reports:
