Sembcorp The UK Power Reserve (UKPR) has been acquired by Sembcorp Indus- tries for £216m (US$288m). In a statement, Sembcorp said it had reached an agreement this week to acquire UKPR’s business and assets, which include over 1 GW of flexible installed capacity in the UK. UKPR owns and operates a

portfolio of highly flexible distrib- uted energy generation projects across 32 locations in England and Wales, with 533 megawatts in operation and a further 480 megawatts in construction and under development. RWE transfers stake to E.ON in asset

exchange RWE has transferred its entire

stake of 76.8% in innogy to E.ON via a far-reaching exchange of assets and businesses. The transaction will create two stronger European energy companies headquartered in Essen, Germany. As a leading company, the newly-

created E.ON will have a clear focus on intelligent networks and customer solutions, positioned to become an innovative force behind the energy transition in Europe. RWE becomes a broadly diversified

power producer optimally complementing a large portfolio of renewables assets with its conventional energy generation and linking the two with its existing trading platform. This set-up will enable RWE to

generate sustainable, profitable growth. The transaction brings together the strengths of both previously vertically integrated German energy utilities by enabling a focus on networks and customer solutions on the one hand, and a fully diversified generation business on the other.

13,000 kVA power plant is now operational at Baghdad Mall, Iraq’s new commercial centre

A 13,000 kVA power plant is now

operational at the Baghdad Mall, the largest commercial complex ever constructed in Iraq. Iraq's largest mall is currently powered

by a KOHLER-SDMO plant. Composed of 4 x 3,300 kVA generating sets, the installation is the fruit of a collaboration between personnel from SDMO Industries and its local distributor, EREL. Located in the centre of Baghdad, the

capital city of Iraq, the Baghdad Mall project covers some 80,000m². It incorporates a number of special features: * A shopping centre consisting of a supermarket and 150 shops; * A 5-star hotel over 33 floors, offering

243 bedrooms; * A medical centre consisting of 30

surgeries, pharmacies, analytical laboratories, x-ray clinics and a hospital, together covering nearly 10,000m²; * A car park for up to 1,000 vehicles. Baghdad Mall is now famous as the multi-purpose showcase building located in Harthiya, Baghdad at the intersection between Iraq’s Damascus street and Al-Kindi street.

European district cooling market set to grow thanks largely to climate change, says new

report by GMI From its current market value of more than $35 billion the European District Cooling Market is set to grow to over $40 billion by 2024 says new research report by Global Market Insights. The market size will be driven by acceleration in the demand for space cooling systems, along with growing concerns pertaining to carbon emissions. A general ‘hotting up’ of weather conditions across Italy, Sweden and Germany is

expected to stimulate the introduction of district cooling systems. In 2017, the number of annual cooling degree days (CDD) in Italy were 295, compared with 200 in 2016. Economies of scale, ease of parity, in long run and high standard of operations &

maintenance are some of the key features which will stimulate the Europe district cooling market size, says GMI. In addition, the high reliability & flexibility of systems with various production techniques will positively influence the business growth. Sweden’s district cooling market is set to reach over 3,000 TJ by 2024. Increasing

penetration of renewable energy technologies owing to ambitious government targets toward sustainable technology adoption will fuel the business growth.
