[WRE UPDATE | BUSINESS]

Kris Paronto signed books and spoke with attendees after his presentation.

• Tax Reform: Te bill passed last year will be on the table an issue in the upcoming Congressional election cycle in the U.S. In a separate presentation, Caroline Harris (Vice

President, Tax Policy) returned to score the tax reform bill passed late last year against the criteria she had outlined in her presentation at the prior AWRF meeting in October 2017. Ed Mortimer (VP, Transportation and Infrastructure) followed with a discussion of infrastructure and its dramatic economic impact. Tere were also quite a few presentations dealing with

much more focused industry-specific topics. Brandon Gutshall, a partner with Shook, Hardy

& Bacon LLP who represents a wide range of cargo securement and heavy construction manufacturing clients, provided a very well received review of his approach to the management of litigation risk. Felix Nyberg, International Sales Manager with

Gunnebo Industries, described the effects of environmental conditions on the performance of rigging equipment, and discussed the trade-offs faced by manufacturers and users as they seek to address these effects. Te indispensable Knut Buschmann, President and

General Manager of Unirope Limited, provided insight into the world of fiber rope. He also introduced a new publication from the AWRF Technical Committee “Recommended Practice for the Operation of Sling Shops” which was formally adopted by the membership. Finally, Barry Strawter and Dimitri Pivtorak from

MILO Detroit, a digital marketing agency, made their case for the importance of social media as a part of your marketing strategy, and recounted work they’ve done for AWRF to make their case.

Of course, there were lively evening receptions and a banquet dinner. On top of that, more than 100 players braved the desert heat to participate in the Golf Tournament held on Monday afternoon. And for those who stayed over to Wednesday, a fun run/walk was held early in the day, and a small but very gregarious group took on Old Town Scottsdale by pedal tavern later in the day. We enjoyed speaking with a great many of you over the course of the event, and we hope you are already making plans for the Fall General Meeting in San Antonio on the Riverwalk, October 14-17. y
