Drink News FLORADORA DAME (PASSIONATE)

mid-summer’s day and the promise of high summer surely provides an excuse to feel passionate – and if not now, then when?

Bars may like to serve up this new twist on a classic from Brockmans Gin: The Floradora (Passionate) Dame.

This new summer gin cocktail is served with passion and with passion-fruit. In this recipe, raspberries are replaced with Cantaloupe melon bringing a glorious golden hue to the finished drink.

The original Floradora was created for a member of the cast of a hit musical in 1899 (briefly revived since). Following its launch nearly 120 years ago, the play ran for 455 performances in London and 549 in New York. For most people the musical is lost in the annals of theatre history and perhaps that is where it will remain. We think there is, however, room for a revival of the Floradora cocktail... albeit in rather modern dress. Let there be music as well as passion...

Ingredients: • 50ml Brockmans Gin • 15ml Passion-fruit Purée • 1 Passion-fruit • Cantaloupe Melon • 5ml Agave (Beso) • Ginger Ale

Garnish: A long slice of Cantaloupe or other yellow-fleshed melon.

Method:

Muddle 8-10 large chunks of Cantaloupe melon in a shaker, retaining a slice of melon to use later. Add the passion-fruit purée, agave, Brockmans Gin and ice cubes. Shake, then strain into a highball glass containing ice. Top with ginger ale. Add the scooped out juice from 1 passion- fruit with a few seeds and give it a stir. Garnish with a thin wedge of melon.
