clean-up plan BOXLEY Parish Council has been informed that Lidsing Road at Box- ley Hill is due to be closed overnight to allowfor treework. A provisional date has been set
for Friday and Saturday, June 1 and 2. It has been suggested that if the parish council could raise a vol- unteer group, it might be a perfect time to spring clean the verges, a job too dangerous to do when the road is open. The council will arrange a com-
munity litter pick if enough volun- teers can be found.Any resident or local community groupwhomight be willing to help should contact the parish office. Chairman Bob Hinder said:
“This is a real opportunity to clean what is a lovely country lane, and if enough volunteers are found it might also be possible to do Harp Farm Road as the hill’s closure means that there should be no traf- fic using it.” The Street in Boxley is also
scheduled for a closure due to road resurfacing and volunteers to pick rubbish from the verges and hedges around the village are also sought. The parish council will provide
the equipment, hi-vis jackets and do all the safety briefings.
Records ‘lost in parish fire’
MEMBERS have learned that a fire in 1932may have destroyed Parish Council records as none can be found in the Kent Local History Archives. The council had agreed to buy
and maintain two Honour Boards, one listing chairmen of the Parish Council and the other recipients of the KALC CommunityAward. In viewof the lack of evidence as
towhowas chairman prior to 1933 the chairman boardwill state “1894 – 1932 information not available” and will then be followed by a list of the serving chairmen. Both boards will be located at
Beechen Hall, Walderslade, which also houses the parish office.

Residents urged to sign up for news
RESIDENTS are being reminded that unless they opt in to the parish council’s email alert system byMay 25, theywill no longer re- ceive the latest news updates. News such as planning and road
closures in the area can only be sent out to residents who sign up to continue receiving them. Chairman BobHinder said: “The
parish council and the many resi- dentswho receive the emails value this system, but the changes to the data lawsmean that residentsmust nowgive permission for the parish council to retain and use their data. “It has taken a long time to build
up the email list and I hope resi- dents value it enough to allow the parish council to keep in direct con- tactwith them.” The parish council haswritten to
all residents signed up to the lists which cover Boxley, Grove Green, Walderslade and Lordswood and Sandling, but unless residents reply that they give consent then their personal data, in this case their name and email address, will be deleted. Anyone can sign up to the alert systemat any time. Cllr Hinder added “The council
is having to review every process or system it operates to identify when personal data is provided, in- cluded or used. “It normally only receives per-
sonal data when residents contact the parish office for help or advice but it still has to producewhat feels like reams of paper, policies and procedures most of which will be on the parish council’s website for residents to read.”
Names approved formemorial
THE council’s estates’ committee has been presented with a further list of names to consider adding to theWarMemorial. A set of criteria to identify eligi-
bility was agreed which enabled members to identify which names to add. Approval was given to adding
RSV Hadlow, F Dennis, TW Sales and possibly, once further investi- gation has taken place, JWParks. A number of nameswere declined
as they were either not residents of the parish at the time of being killed in action or they are already listed on the AylesfordWarMemorial.
Tree tribute toGreatWar heroes
FOUR years ago the parish council looked ahead to 2018 and planted two trees at Grove Green so that they could be well established and used tomark the end ofWWI. Members have decided the fol-
lowing wording for the plaque: “ThisEnglishOak andGermanLin- den standas a livingmemorial to all those who lost their lives in the
GreatWar 1914-1918. The men that were, the things done, long ago,All I have thought; and but the moon and I live yet and here stand idle over the graveWhere all is buried. From “Liberty” by journalist, poet and soldier Edward Thomas (1878 – 1917) who lived and wrote not far fromhere at RoseAcre Cottage and died at the Battle ofArras”.
PCSOasked to
tackle speeding CHAIRMAN Bob Hinder wel- comed back PCSO Matt Adlington when he attendedtheAprilmeeting of the council. Due to PCSOshortages,Matt had
beenunable to attendfor awhile. He was immediately askedto helpget a police presence on Sandling Lane andBoxleyRoad, northofPenenden Heath, as driverswere speeding. The night closure of theM20 was
also forcing HGVs and cars to find alternative routes, and frustrated driverswere not being considerate. TheCouncil also agreedto request
amulti-agency presence in the Box- ley area, as such operations in the past had identified vehicles that did not have Waste Transfer Licences andwere unsafe.
