management, live global track and trace, and business-critical reporting. It also has EDI integration capabilities with industry-specific systems and major providers. The company says its philosophy of focusing

on each order, rather than thinking in terms of transport consignments, is reflected in OnTrack’s core functionality. As such, orders drive the process and transport tracking is an element of that process. Allen explained: “OnTrack works on a

red/amber/green traffic light system that provides on-screen analysis and monitoring of shipments, which are typically both AOG [aircraft on ground] and time-critical. It can then also be used for business reporting, which helps to ensure smooth supply chain operation.”

Not just an ordinary freight forwarder

A niche within a niche – aerospace logistics specialist B&H Worldwide wins recognition for its business solutions underpinned by a tailor-made IT platform, writes Megan Ramsay

Entering the BIFA Awards for the first time this year was aerospace logistics specialist B&H Worldwide, which operates from 10 strategic aerospace hubs around the world and has a customer base that includes: airlines; spare part stockists; maintenance, repair and overhaul companies; and repair vendors. The Heathrow-headquartered company

scooped the 2017 Supply Chain Management Award for quality of service in aerospace logistics, supported by its purpose-built OnTrack visibility tool, which has streamlined its customers’ time-critical supply chains and delivered substantial cost savings to them. Stuart Allen, chief executive at B&H, said:

“Aerospace has been our focus for 30 years. We are not a general freight forwarder.” The company’s in-depth knowledge of its

customers’ business gives it a deep understanding of their specific supply chain needs, enabling it to provide tailor-made solutions that help them both manage

and grow their businesses. Through data capture and management,

OnTrack helps to make the aerospace supply chain function more efficiently and offers customers complete transparency in terms of logistics. The platform, which is managed by an in-

house development team, allows users to access the entire B&H suite of services. These include critical service management, order management, unserviceable parts management, inventory

In 2016, Icelandair introduced a process to address ongoing challenges in logistics provision arising from managing multiple suppliers globally. B&H won the tender with a bid that included

several elements; its OnTrack web portal for tracking shipments and providing financial and

Information breakdown Through OnTrack, all of a customer’s logistics movements can be captured in one place. B&H can then break it down (into service types, spend or lanes, for instance) in order to work on such areas as positioning engines at forward stocking locations around the world. In turn, this can dramatically reduce freight

costs and AOGs during maintenance and busy periods. “Using OnTrack, we have helped customers

such as Icelandair to achieve cost savings of some 15% in their freight movements,” Allen added. According to Allen, the BIFA Supply Chain

Management Award is “good for business”. He remarked: “We are the industry’s best-kept secret – but we want to change that and get our name out there. We are punching above our weight and seeking recognition for that. “This win is a tremendous testament to our

whole team’s efforts, not just in the UK but all those who work in our aerospace hubs around the world. We believe that aerospace logistics is a highly specialist business which needs dedicated individuals to provide service levels that other companies struggle to meet.” l B&H was also shortlisted in BIFA’s Specialist Services category this year, and recently named Best-in-Class Global Aerospace Logistics Company by the Global Institute of Logistics.

operational visibility was one of the key points. Einar Már Gudmundsson, Icelandair director

materials and logistics, said: “B&H has a proven track record in reducing logistics costs for airlines, while improving logistics service levels. It achieved this through its core philosophy of overall customer engagement and strong belief in driving ongoing continuous improvement.”
