Discovered by Inpex in 2000, the Ichthys gas and condensate field, located offshore of Western Australia, represents the largest discovery of hydrocarbon liquids in Australia in 50 years. Two Houston-based firms teamed up to test, produce and package three massive riser protection nets designed to prevent vessel incursions at the massive offshore central processing facility onsite there today.

ON THE COVER: In our feature article, Houston- based SWOS was contracted to produce a set of synthetic riser protection nets for a massive offshore gas project in Australia. A challenging project, but squarely in their wheelhouse as the master distributor of synthetic rigging solutions. Packaging the nets on reels for transport was another thing altogether. For that, SWOS turned to Myers Design and Manufacturing, also of Houston, to design and build this reel for the job.
