Inpex has been a quiet achiever in Australian business for nearly 30 years. But their multi-billion-dollar Ichthys LNG Project, connecting the Browse Basin and the Northern Territory, is now turning heads. Discovered by Inpex in 2000, the giant Ichthys gas and condensate field is located about 220 kilometers offshore of Western Australia, and it represents the largest discovery of hydrocarbon liquids in Australia in 50 years. At more than 90 percent complete, the Ichthys LNG


Project is ranked among the most significant oil and gas projects in the world—expected to produce 8.9 million tons of LNG (liquid natural gas) and 1.6 million tons of LPG (liquid petroleum gas) per annum, along with more than 100,000 barrels of condensate per day at peak. At the center of the Project’s offshore development


in the Browse Basin is the massive floating central processing facility (CPF)—a column-stabilized, offshore semi-submersible production unit supporting hydrocarbon processing systems and utilities, as well as living quarters for about 200 people. Te CPF—Ichthys Explorer—is the world’s largest semi-submersible platform. It was constructed in South Korea at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard before being towed about 6,000 kilometers to the Ichthys Field, where it is now permanently moored near the field for
