GLAAD MEDIA AWARDS Known as the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, GLAAD has been at the forefront of cultural change, working tirelessly to shape the media narrative and accelerating acceptance for the LGBTQ community. Each year at the Annual GLAAD Media Awards, they honor the many forms of media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ com- munity and the issues that affect our lives. “What people see in the media has a powerful impact on how they treat others and the GLAAD Media Awards raise the bar for media to tell LGBTQ stories that accelerate acceptance,” said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “At a time when anti-LGBTQ policies and harassment are on the rise, it is imperative that Hollywood and news media tell more LGBTQ stories that reflect the community’s rich diversity – and build understanding that brings all communities closer together.” Honorees for 2018 include: Vanguard Award-winner Britney Spears and Stephen F. Kolzak Award-winner, Jim Parsons, with special guest appearances by Tommy Dorfman, Gigi Gorgeous, Adam Rippon, Lena Waithe and host, the ever-hilarious, Wanda Sykes. GAY CAMPING 101
& BIG GAY PICNIC! “What to pack, what to pack, what to pack…?” It’s hard enough to figure all of that out when you’re taking a week- end trip on a plane, in a car or by train. What the heck is one to do when you head to the great outdoors for a little camping fun? Especially when it’s gay camping??? One wonders: How many outfits and shoes can a person fit in
that canvas pack and how big a tent does one require for a woodsy weekend? For the answer to those and many other questions, join Great Outdoors L.A. for an afternoon in Echo Park onSunday, April 8, as a group of experienced trip leaders share their experiences on pitfalls to avoid, including practical tips and demonstrations on best equipment, and practiced instructions on how to keep your tent up... keeping your camping experience shall we say, “uncollapsible?” And, best of all? After you’re done, it’s time for what organizers call The Big Gay Picnic! Bring a lunch or food items to share, some drinks if you wish and your very own picnic blanket/mat/low chair to sit on the lawn as you enjoy the fun, informative day with friends, old and new.
