At Jeff Eaton's boat shop on Deer Isle they are fi nishing a Morgan Bay 43 as a lobster boat.
Kittery Point Yacht Yard at Kittery Point and Eliot has had a busy winter. The Holland 32 they fi nished off last
fall, LADY ERIN, is in the shop at Kittery Point, having some small upgrades done at the owner’s request and some minor cosmetic work before heading to the Maine Boatbuilders Show the end of March. CATCH ME, a 35 foot Fuji ketch, is get- ting new topside and superstructure paint.
Before this could be done, they needed to de-core sections of the deck due to wet core, which was repaired, re-glassed, re-faired, new nonskid added and then painted. A Valiant 40 is in for new gelcoat. She
was dismasted and will also receive some repairs and a new rig from Valiant. When dismasted she damaged her stanchions which need to be replaced as well as paint to her hull and change some of her hardware.
At Artisan Boatworks in Rockport they are making deck furniture for a 130-foot megayacht. ROLLING STONE, a John's Bay 44, is
in for cosmetic work. They are fi nding that more and more commercial boats are haul- ing out and having work done at the yard. The yard in Eliot is also busy by a
number of contracts they have with the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard and the New Hampshire DES. The engine department has sold 4
Yanmar diesels this winter, three of which they installed. They also sold 4 Suzukis and installed three of them. The Osmond 38 sportfi sherman COR-
SAIR has been in the shop over the winter. They extended the shelter top, added a vi- sor, and stiff ened it. Coamings were added around the cockpit and then they gelcoat all the repair areas around the cockpit. At the Kittery yard there is about 12
boats in winter storage inside and all have been receiving their annual maintenance over the winter.
Derecktor Maine Robinhood Marine
at Robinhood has seen an increase in winter projects over the last couple of years. A Wilbur 34 is in to repair her sub deck.
They have wooded her bright work and she is being totally revarnished as well as some other cosmetic work. She will then receive her annual maintenance so she is ready for the upcoming season. A Robinhood 36 is in to be Awlgripped. A Wasque 24 has had her topsides
painted as well as some cosmetic and engine work. She is also having her annual mainte-
nance done. Vindo 34, which is for sale, is in for her
regular maintenance, which includes a lot of varnish. They also repaired a covering board where she had some delamination. Another Robinhood 36 was in and had
her bottom stripped, a barrier coat applied and then painted. A F. & C. 44 had two seacocks replaced
last winter and this winter they replaced the last three and then added another. They also replumbed the forward head, repaired the chain plates and hardware, added a deck prism, redid the wiring in the mizzenmast and then varnished. A 40 foot Nordic tug is in for general
maintenance, but they are also adding two port lights as well as adding additional elec- tronics. An Edwards Sea Skiff , which was built
in Falmouth, MA, has been reconfi gured back to her original design. They have removed her fl ybridge and put her back to a bass boat style. This meant replacing the cabin sides to match the original design, new windows, and the cockpit has been reconfi gured. This boat was sold last fall and is being done for her new owner from Portland, Oregon. He will be arriving in April and may want additional work done before she is shipped west. to do extensive cruising and this is phase II. They are now adding additional solar power and upgrading the old solar power that was there. They have also installed a Sea Frost refrigerator, but this meant reworking the galley, adding insulation and new coun- tertops. They then put in a new inverter, a battery bank all being tied to the solar power. Then came a new dodger, new cutlass bear- ing, the propeller was redone, and updated the plumbing system. Next year they will add new davits and more solar power. A Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 409, which
was supposed to go south in the fall, but due to the hurricanes remained at the yard. They decided to have some work done in prepara- tion for the upcoming sailing season. They have added solar power, and new canvas and bimini system from Bayview Rigging and Sails in Yarmouth.
Artisan Boatworks in Rockport is
fi nishing up a major project for a 130 foot megayacht. They built her a 24-foot Herres- hoff -inspired launch designed by Matthew Smith. They are now building a number of deck furniture pieces including deck boxes and a wrap-around settee. With the addition of another indoor
storage shed last fall, they have plenty of storage customers to get ready for the up- coming season and this kept them busy all winter and will continue to keep them busy through the spring.
