9.75 MW each, the generator sets will serve as continuous, standby or peaking units, and will provide a variety of electric services to HUC. “These generator sets

provide great flexibility with a ‘plug and play’ system on all of the electrical components, which makes for easy maintenance with minimal downtime,” Randy Blake, Production Manager at Hutchinson Utilities Commission, tells WIP.

“Plus, we’re able to put generation on-line quickly to take advantage of pricing spikes in the market.” The G20CM34 generator set

features a 20-cylinder, natural gas fired, spark ignited, V-shape, turbocharged and aftercooled engine that achieves high efficiency with low emissions. “Our generator sets offer

many features that are critical for HUC’s operations, such as fast start and the ability to run in partial loads with high fuel efficiency. They also come equipped with emission control devices, which enable them to meet stringent EPA

regulations,” said Claudio Martino, regional sales director with Caterpillar Energy Solutions.

This is the third project using

the Cat G20CM34 generator sets in the United States. Together with its 16 and 12- cylinder versions, Caterpillar has over 150 of the GCM34 engines installed in the USA and Canada, making this

product one of its most successful medium speed solutions. “As the Cat equipment dealer in Minnesota, Ziegler Power Systems is looking forward to partnering with HUC and Caterpillar in the Hutchinson plant expansion," said Bruce Erickson, Vice President of Ziegler Power Systems. www.cat.com
