Winter 2018 From the Desk of The Executive Director Members,
This calendar year has gotten off to a great start for the FPCA. Our 2018 Mid-Winter Conference was a huge success with approximately 220 law enforcement leaders in attendance networking and sharing ideas and innovative programs. We also had 156 exhibitors who dis- played their latest products and services to help our members en- hance their operations and services. Our Professional Standards Committee and Professional Development Staff did an outstanding job bringing in top-notch speakers that packed the room both days.
Amy Mercer Executive Director
The 2018 Legislative Session is now in full swing and the FPCA’s top two initiatives are progressing well. House Bill 33, which makes texting while driving a primary offense, has passed successfully out of all committee of reference. The Senate companion bill 90 has passed successfully out of the first three com- mittees of reference and is waiting to be heard in Appropriations. House Bill 165, Threats to Kill or Do Great Bodily Injury, has passed out of all committees of reference successfully and is now on the House Calendar for a seconding reading. The Senate companion bill 310 has passed out of one committee and has two more committees stops. We are also hearing a lot of discussion on criminal justice reform and are monitoring the issue closely.
In addition to playing an active role in this Legislative Session, we have several initiatives that we will be roll- ing out in 2018. Our most important initiative, which was recently approved, is the Law Enforcement Memo- rial to be established at FPCA headquarters. We will soon be sharing information on the Memorial and will be asking for your support to make this recognition a reality.
Lastly, I would be remiss if I did not thank you for your support and prayers during my father’s illness and ultimate passing. Thank you.
Executive Director Faithfully serving Florida’s Police Chiefs
