Gensets powering 1 & 2 New Ludgate

Bells Power, a FG Wilson dealer for 30 years, was chosen by the developers to supply, install and commission two FG Wilson P1700P1 tenants and one P800P1 life safety 400V generators for the £260 million New Ludgate development in Central London. The 1700 kVA generators are remote cooled with roof DACs. The key acoustic requirement was 65 dB(A) @ 1m and catalysts were installed on each set for emissions, reports UKPN.

n April 2015, Land Securities, the largest commercial property company in the UK and a member of the FTSE 100, completed its £260 million New Ludgate development in Central London. This comprises of two distinct buildings

united by a new public piazza. The buildings include more than 355,000 square feet of office accommodation and 26,800 square feet of restaurant and retail facilities. Bells Power, a FG Wilson dealer for 30

years, initially engaged with design consultant Waterman Building Services in 2010, however the global recession hit and the project was put on hold. Keeping their project team in place, when

the go ahead was given in 2013, Bells were able hit the ground running and mobilise immediately. The company provided a package of six

FG Wilson generators and PLCs across both buildings. At a cost of £3.5-4 million, the project took just over a year to deliver initial order. The brief for 1 New Ludgate was to supply,

install and commission two P1700P1 tenants and one P800P1 life safety 400V generators at basement level B1. The 1700 kVA generators are remote cooled with roof DACs, with Bells being responsible for the installation as well as the acoustic/ventilation system. The acoustic requirement was 65 dB(A) @ 1m and catalysts were installed on each set for emissions. Bells Power also installed 72 Hours

(tenants) and 24 Hours (life safety) bulk fuel storage systems, in addition to the associated fuel control and pipework systems. A full hot/standby Allen Bradley PLC system with outstations at each switch- board was installed to control the mains operation of the building for any perceived scenario. The site at 2 New Ludgate required the

supply, installation and commissioning of two P2000P1 tenant 400V generators at Basement Level B1and one P800P1 life safety 400V generators within an acoustic enclosure at roof level. James Murphy, Managing Director of Bells

Power, comments: “The scale of this project was huge, with both buildings being carried out at the same time. Main contractor, Skanska, was committed to a very ambitious constructiionn programme, which ntroduced night and weekend working for commission- ing and IST activities. “Both buildings are now fully let, testament

to the resilient infrastructure provided. We have since maintained our special relation- ship that FG Wilson has built with Land Securities and have won further projects - One New Street Square and Nova, Victoria. We are also now a preferred generator designer with Waterman’s and have since won numerous more projects with Skanksa.” Gary Tozer, Principal Electrical Engineer at

Waterman Building Services adds: “Bells Power has provided us with excellent manufacturer support for the design of the generator installation at Land Securities’ projects 1 and 2 New Ludgate. It is evident from their input that they understand the client’s requirements and have a wealth of experience in delivering complex turnkey generator installation.” For further information visit www.bellspower.co.uk www.fgwilson.com
