ADVOCACY SPOTLIGHT
2018 ASCA Advocacy Event Calendar Speak up, speak out BY DANIELLE KASTER
Every day, local and fed- eral lawmakers are mak- ing decisions that directly impact your livelihood and your patients. Despite
growing support for ASCs, many pol- icymakers remain uneducated about the important role surgery centers play in providing care to their constituents. Your voice is invaluable to the suc- cess of the ASC industry. Help educate these elected officials by becoming an ASC advocate. Below is a list of advocacy events this year that you could participate in and make a difference. If we don’t stand up and fight for the ASC indus- try, who will?
June 5: National Advocacy Day Meet with your members of Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Help educate Congress and congres- sional staff about your facility and the patients you serve. ASCA will provide dinner and a
legislative briefing on the evening of Monday, June 4. During the brief- ing, ASCA staff will review pend- ing ASC legislation, discuss how to conduct a meeting with a member of Congress and provide materials you can use during your Capitol Hill vis- its. You will receive a schedule of carefully coordinated meetings for the following day.
August: National ASC Month
Help celebrate Nat - ional ASC Month
in August. During the entire month, members of Congress are out of ses- sion and in their home districts. Invite your representatives to tour your facil- ity. Over the past two years, more than 100 local and federal officials have visited ASCs, and half of those offi- cials supported ASC legislation. Invitations to tours of your ASC should be sent to your members of Congress at least two months in advance. Write Danielle Kaster at
dkaster@ascassociation.org to begin coordinating your tour.
