How To Make Your Christmas Lunch Healthier


Fitness Expert, Luciano Kydd advises what to make sure to add to your plate…


This is the month where we celebrate Christmas and being jolly - along with giving ourselves the excuses to indulge in excess of 20,000 calories during the Christmas week.


Here’s a brief guide to enjoy the Christmas lunch if the breakfast doesn’t send you to sleep before.


The Sprouts: No Christmas meal is complete without some Brussels sprouts on the plate even though it has become a dare to most people who will eat them first. The mighty sprout itself contains protein whereby one cup is equal to 4 grams, lots of vitamin A, potassium, calcium and folacin, plus they’re packed with fibre, so even more reason to eat your veggies.


The Turkey: To balance out your high carbohydrate day of bingeing on treats, turkey meat is a lean as they come and packed full of protein. It’s said to contain Vitamin B6, which can help to boost your energy levels, which no doubt you with need on Christmas Day while not only preparing the meals but entertaining the family as well.


The Carrots: Apparently these little fellas help you see in the dark, but in all truth


while they do help maintain a healthy pair of eyes, they are another source of fibre, potassium, vitamins A, K and C, easy to digest and tasty and they are said to ward of some types of cancer.


The Cranberries and Cranberry Sauce: Apart from using the tasty flavours to get the kids to eat some turkey, these babies are packed with vitamin C and other antioxidants. Vitamin C is a nutrient that helps keep your immune system working efficiently and preventing illnesses from occurring especially in these winter months where people seem to get sick more easily. Another benefit is proanthocyanidins a flavanols that is found in the cranberries which is said to help keep the urinary tract free of bacteria forming, which is always a plus.


The Alcohol, The Booze: Or whatever you want to call it! I’m sure no Christmas table will be without this to wash down the many treats throughout the day. There’s no point me saying don’t drink, as many of you will fail to heed my warning, but then again depending on which medical studies you reference, some red wine is good for you. The watchword here would be balance, whatever that might mean to you as an individual. If you feel lightheaded or are puking up your lunch/dinner, you’ve had too much!


Even if you have gone over your balance either way, I hope you have an awesome Christmas and see you all in 2018 for more fun.
