LIVE24SEVEN // Motoring, Sport & Entertainment CHR I S TMAS S P E C TACULAR - INT E R V I EW
In this interview Martin talks about his love of Birmingham, whilst Bradley tells us even Disney is knocking at the door….
Bradley Walsh needs little introduction, from prime-time game shows to hit dramas, he’s even had a number one selling album, whilst Martin Kemp dominated the charts with Spandau Ballet and won awards for acting and is an acclaimed film producer. Take these two guys, mix them up with Peter Pan played out to an arena backdrop, with special effects and a 40ft galleon thrown into the equation, and you have the winning formula for a Christmas Spectacular not to be missed.

Peter Pan – With Bradley Walsh & Martin Kemp
I was talking to one of the producers and I said that this seems to be a pantomime of steroids, as you’re acting and then you have the cameras zooming in on you, so you have to be sure to give a television-like performance! Are you excited by the many layers of this production and what that offers as a performer? [BW] It’s actually the other way round; if you are going to be on such a large screen, you can’t move so much, you’ve gotta sort of hold your look. You can’t be animated because it looks ridiculous, you’ve got to make some sort of connection, it’s a difficult balance to be able to do, but in actual fact if we go over to my esteemed friend Master Kemp who is a film director he’ll tell you exactly how it works.
[MK] When you’re in front of the camera it makes you looks smaller, as it’s more intense, because what you sell is behind the eyes right, but when you’re on stage it’s about being more expressive, so what we’re doing is something in the middle, because we’re doing an arena show, but on big screens. You have to find that balance.
Interesting though as that’s a real mix of everything? [BW]Yes it is darling. The last time we were here, which was two or three Christmases ago, we made Cinderella and we looked at the show and thought we were doing the absolute right thing, then looked at it again and thought, we’ve got to change this and mix it up. So instead of making something you can only see and experience in a theatre we’ve got to make something that you can only see and experience in an arena. So what we’ve done is we’re taking the show to the audience, so if you’re sitting at the back of the arena at some point within 50 feet of you – which isn’t far – will come a 40ft galleon with people hanging off it with ghouls and ghosts and water cannons and people flying from the ceiling. So we’re trying to enhance the show –
