Community Living – a hidden gem

YOU may have noticed Carthew Court but have you ever thought any more about it? The property sits in its own

grounds with pleasant gardens and car parking and is within easy reach of both Woodbridge town centre and the riverside. very affordable accommodation for the over 55s is provided in nine studio flats suitable for single people and six larger flats with a separate bedroom. all the flats have independent access and there is also a separate, laundry room, a flat which is available for those visiting residents and a comfortable common room which is well used for activities ranging from keep fit and coffee mornings to bingo. The residents of Carthew Court

form a friendly community, living independently with the support of a resident warden who, together with the deputy wardens, are there to provide assistance in the

event of a night-time emergency. The Sybil Carthew Trust is a

registered charity which is affili- ated to the national almshouse association. it manages the prop- erty which was built on land gen- erously bequeathed by Mrs Sybil Carthew, who also provided money with which to build homes for the elderly. an additional small grant from the Housing Corporation enabled the complex to be completed in 1971. The trust is well endowed and

extensive work to renew the water and heating services and convert three flats into two double flats was carried out in 2002/ the present time, the focus is on the proper maintenance of the building and minor improve- ments to individual flat facilities. if you are interested in finding

out more about becoming a resi- dent, please write to the Secretary, Carthew Court, 11 Station Road, Woodbridge, iP 4aU.

Fifth anniversary and new home for

Becky Louise Beauty Clinic

Having established Becky Louise Beauty Clinic in May 2012, Becky Stammers re- cently celebrated five years in business. Prior to opening her own clinic Becky had worked at a local spa for ten years, so it is fair to say she has plenty of experience in the industry. When Becky first opened

her business, she was working from Woodbridge Comple- mentary Health Centre. How- ever, as her business grew she began looking for new prem- ises and in May this year she moved to Brightwell Barns – after two years of looking for the right place. Becky’s new clinic is bright,

open, warm and relaxing and this creates the perfect envi- ronment for what she does. Becky explains that this is very much a client-led experi- ence. Time out in a salon or clinic is time spent pampering yourself, so, it is important that its clients go away feeling special. This is the number one priority at all times here at Becky Louise Beauty Clinic. Joining Becky in the salon

are amber green and Sarah gardener.amber works three days a week and has been with Becky ever since she set up on her own. in fact, the pair have worked together for the last 15 years. Sarah, works two days a week and fits the team per- fectly. in December georgia Keeble will be joining the team full time. The team offer all the treat-

ments you would expect from a beauty clinic run by fully qualified and experienced professionals,

include: facials, peel treat- ments, waxing, eye treatments such as tints and lash exten- sions, spray tanning, massage, reflexology, manicures and

are part of thenationalgardens Scheme ngS to find suitable subjects. Patience is needed to take

good pictures but you can use features in the garden to improve their composition; a pond provides reflections ; an overhanging tree provides shade; clouds can be used to add texture. Michael uses a digital camera which has cut down on the need for telephoto lenses. Whilst not being keen on Photo- shop, he does admit it is useful if you need to remove a “Keep Off” sign from your picture. The next meeting of the Soci-

ety is on December 14th - “Christmas Delights.” This will be a flower arranging demon- stration by Jenny Harris and Peggy albertini. Competition - a Christmas cracker.
