Installed and commissioned: Centrax Gas Turbines provides CX501-KB5 DLE generators

Centrax Gas Turbines has installed and commissioned two CX501-KB5 DLE generator sets for Hera, one of Italy’s major multi-utility companies. The gas turbine-powered units each

Centrica acquires leading demand

response aggregator Centrica has acquired REstore NV,

Europe's leading demand response aggregator, for €70m in cash. REstore - which has its HQ in

Antwerp, Belgium - manages 1.7GW of peak load from a portfolio of industrial and commercial (I&C) customers across Belgium, the UK, France and Germany, generating value for businesses through ancillary services including frequency response and capacity markets.

The company's patents are

currently used by over 150 of Europe's largest energy users, including chemical, steel and food manufacturers. The business will form part of

Centrica's international distributed energy and power unit, which provides energy insight, asset opti- misation and energy solutions to large energy users under the Centrica business solutions banner.

France has ‘world 1st’ 22.5 kW organic

BIPV system Engie & the organic solar PV technology manufacturer, Heliatek, have commissioned ‘the world’s largest rooftop building-integrated organic PV (BiOPV) system’. The 22.5 kWp installation at the Pierre Mendes middle school in La Rochelle, France features 500 sq.m of solar film on two different roof sur- faces. The installation is the first use of its solar films in a rooftop system, says Heliatek. Almost 400 self-adhe- sive solar films with wiring were applied in a record eight hours.

Estonia’s Graanul Invest group has completed the Osula combined heat and power plant

The new power station in Osula, Estonia, is regarded as an improved copy of the Imavere plant which was established in 2016. This features two grate fired boilers, a CHP electrical capacity of 10 MW and a heat produc- tion capacity of 27 MW. Overall efficiency at the plant is esti-

mated at 89%, with bark and forest chips used as fuel. The CHP tech com- plies with the Estonian Grid Code and electricity production in September. Plant is able to do a black start and operate without power grid. CHP is unmanned and is operated from Ima- vere powerplant. Osula CHP provides district heating to pellet factory and neighboring sawmill. renewable energy. The company has enjoyed swift growth

in recent years and has expanded to become the biggest producer of fuel pellets in Europe. The capacity of Graanul Invest group is 2.3 million tons of pellets per year.

provide up to 3.9MW of electrical power at Hera’s new state-of-the-art cogenera- tion plant in Bologna; replacing an existing thermal power plant coming to the end of its operational life. Attached to two Ruths boilers, the gen-

erator sets will enable Hera to heat around 8,000 apartments in the Reno-Borgo Panigale district of Bologna and has the capacity to double this amount. The Centrax equipment will also help to

reduce the environmental impact from the decommissioned thermal plant. For each thermal year, a reduction of 21,000kg NOx (nitrogen oxide) and 2,500 tonnes of CO2 will be avoided and the

heat from the cogeneration process will go from 28.9% to 51%. The two packages, powered by the Siemens 501-k engines, were manufactured at Centrax’s headquarters in the UK and shipped to site for installation and commissioning. Service and maintenance will be carried out by Centrax’s Italian support centre in Montale. At the site’s official opening ceremony

on 24th October, 2017, Mr Zucchetti, Hera’s Senior Project Manager said: “We’ve been very satisfied with the level

of expertise and commitment received from Centrax, enabling us to turn this project around in just 18 months. “It is thanks to Centrax that we were able to install the best fitting generator sets for the project. We’ll also benefit from Centrax’s support packages over the coming years and we look forward to continuing our work together.”
