18 GENSETS

Gensets providing the key power supply at the Dakar Rally 2018 in South America

HIMOINSA, a global leader in the manufacture of power generation systems, has reached an agreement with ASO, Amaury Sport Organisation, organiser of the Dakar Rally, to supply power during the race. The rally, which will be held between 6th and 20th January, 2018, will cover 9,000km across three countries - Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, reports WIP.

10+ camps which ASO plans to set up for the race. The HIMOINSA solution involves a total of eight HPCW-500 D5-6 Power Cube generator sets, with FPT C13TE7 engines and Cramaco alternators. Being dual-frequency allows them to operate when the races passes through Peru, a 60Hz market, as well as in Argentina and Bolivia, where the generators will run at 50Hz. To implement the plan, three independent technical units have been appointed, which will install, commission and transport two generator sets to each camp. One generator will supply 503 kVA (50HZ) or 524 kVA (60Hz) of PRP power, and

the other genset will remain on standby to guarantee a 100% reliable supply. Similarly, the generators are ready to work in parallel, if required. Each of the eight Power Cube models has an 875-litre fuel tank. In addition, they will include external tanks to guarantee the power supply in any eventuality.
