MCV NEWS www.milfordcv.org

Goldfinch from bird hide

This year has been an excing me for the Milford Conservaon Volunteers (MCV). Somany acvies have taken place, encouraging a wide range of people to become involved at a level that suits them. Membership has just reached over 200, and

members find that they can benefit in several ways: by taking part in conservaon work pares, sharing their wildlife knowledge with others, learning more about the local wildlife by vising the local nature reserves, or by coming along to the social events organised throughout the year.

MCV are a local group of people dedicated to conserving and improving our parish wildlife and environment. We undertake local projects, to improve the local environment across the parish and report on the acvies of local wildlife. As a not‐for‐profit organisaon, MCV aims to protect and enhance biodiversity, encourage a new generaon of young conservaonists, record, monitor and publish our wildlife records.

With this inmind, MCV always warmly welcomes new members (Membership is just £7.50 per person, children and students free).

The MCV website www.milfordcv.org is a great resource, to keep up to date with future acvies and also for some very helpful hints and ps on what wildlife you might see at the nature reserves, including Sturt Pond, Keyhaven Marshes, The Pleasure Grounds, Studland Common & Meadow. Plus help on how to focus your binoculars properly!

Lile Egret on Sturt Pond

Come and visit the newly opened Bird Observatory in Keyhaven, for great views of The Pans wetlands nature reserve and the Avon Water.

N: Our last event in 2017, the Annual Christmas Fair raised £466.80. In 2017 the local RNLI Commiee, led by chairman Ian Ramus, organised 8 fundraising events, which together with collecons from Flag Day, Round the Island & Fastnet Race Days, & Royal Oak donaons, raised £6,000 to saves lives at sea and on the beaches. Also, RNLI Souvenirs, on sale at our events, have totaled £2200, of which 60% is profit. Addional income will come from our share of the collecon at Carols on the Green and our village collecon boxes. We welcome anyone interested in volunteering to help this worthy cause. Please contact the Secretary, MrsMargaret Pruden 01590 645969.
