James D. Jackson James D. Jackson of S&A Consulting

Group has worked in the investment casting industry since 1975. He began his career at Sherwood

Refractories as product manager, and developed a blending process that allowed usage of one million pounds out of spec zircon during the shortage of zircon in 1975. Jackson shares two patents on the manufacture of large, segmented molds and is the lead inventor on the use of microwaves for drying ceramic molds for two piece aircraft turbines which was used at Pratt and Whitney's pilot investment casting foundry. Over the years, Jackson has served the Institute in various capacities, from Vice President of the Board of Directors, to Technical Director and has represented both Affiliate and Regular Members. Jackson has served on numerous committees and taught at several Process Control Courses and training courses in Israel. He has contributed about 40 papers – both authored and co-authored – on investment casting many of which were presented at ICI Technical Conferences. While working at Battelle Memorial Institute, he prepared over 60 reports and papers for private clients and technical studies for organizations on the US space effort. Jackson has also authored a Technical Directors column for INCAST Magazine.

2017 Honorary Member inductee, Leland Martin

Leland Martin In 1973, Leland Martin began his journalism career as a news editor at New Mexico State University and then in 1977, he moved onto the University of Texas of the Permian Basin where he was the director of news and information for just over seven years. He began his course at the

Investment Casting Institute in 1987 and produced the industry’s first investment casting newsletter with the intention of keeping readers up to date with industry, technology and Institute happenings.

The formula

was a success and the newsletter quickly grew into a monthly magazine in 1989. “When I walked in the door, I didn’t

know anything about investment cast- ings, but I knew I could write about anything,” Leland confided. Twenty-seven years later, his naiveté

is gone, replaced by a vast knowledge of the industry. He is recognized by ICI members as being witness to the many developments and innovations. “I’m grateful for the people I’ve

worked for and with, the places I’ve seen, the professional experiences I’ve had, and the friends I’ve made. I’m also thankful that my wife, Susan, was part of the experience. The Institute involved her in fall and spring meetings from the beginning (plus she was the first proofreader of every INCAST for the past 27 years).”

2017 Honorary Member inductee, Leo Rando

Leo Rando Leo Rando has been involved in

the Investment Casting Industry since 1962. During that time, he has worked for Arwood-Interlake, Chromalloy Corp., Atlantic Castings and Stryker Corporation.

At these various

companies, he has been involved in Applied Research, Quality Management, Development Engineering, Foundry Team Leadership, and New Product and Process Introduction in the Casting Discipline. All of these organizations were involved in aerospace or medical casting practices. At Stryker Corp., he was engaged

in a Project Management role with an emphasis in developing new products for the Medical Implant field. The majority of the products under Rando's direction involve Investment Castings. Leo has provided valuable foundry insight to Stryker as their global casting expert for the past 32 years.

As a member of the ICI Board of Directors, Leo has participated in continuous improvements in the products and programs delivered to our membership. Past ICI Executive Director, Michael

C. Perry commented, "This is a well deserved recognition of a great guy. He has been a major contributor to the investment casting industry for more then 50 years and I'm proud to call him my friend."
