Wheeldon Brothers excels in the production of quality SRF

STONE MERCHANT MAKES A ROCK-SOLID INVESTMENT

“Traditionally all job waste was taken off the work site and back to our yard. T is was then loaded onto wagons and taken to landfi ll. T is was costing us rather than making us money!”

L&T Stone Supplies, based in Wigan, is a landscape and supply company, as well as un- dertaking gardening and contract work. T ey pride themselves in delivering the best quality stone materials for landscaping and building purposes, for the lowest possible prices, ranging from imported Indian stones to high quality sands and gravels.

L&T is a family-owned stone merchant run by a 5th generation quarry master with a passion for stone fl owing through its veins. Simon Ratcliff e took over the business when his farther retired.

Simon recently decided it was time to invest in some buckets. He wanted to recycle all the waste material bought back to his yard. He planned to pull out the hardcore and recycle it into ballast, and then screen out the soil, and sell both onto customers for re-use.

With his quarry background he was aware of screeners and crushers. He’s known Sean Heron, MD of Worsley Plant, for about 10 years and had borrowed a bucket or two in the past, so was well aware of the benefi ts. However, as this was a big outlay for the company to make, it was only now that he felt the time was right to make the invest- ment. Aſt er talking to Sean he chose a REMU XO2090 Bucket with a SV Screening and a SB Shredding module, and an MB C50 Crushing Bucket – both to be used on their Bobcat E45.

Ultimately, they had waste product coming in and wanted to make it produce revenue by selling it on, and not sending it to landfi ll. T ey also wanted something that would process materials on site for reuse rather than buying in materials to use on their own jobs. T e smaller kit is more versatile. T ey can now achieve 80% recycling in the yard and they can take the buckets onto their sites where they now recycle 100% of materi- als.

Simon calculated, “… to pay for the investment we have worked out we need to pro- cess 10 tonnes per week and with our two new buckets we can do that in just half a day!! It also pays for the man on the machine too, with additional revenue generated from the sale of the material. We are also saving on the cost of sending any waste to landfi ll - it’s been well worth the investment.”

In conclusion, Simon says, “the REMU XO Bucket is unique with its interchangeable work modules. T ere isn’t a bucket out there that can beat this - it’s great!”

With four transfer stations covering Greater Manchester, James Wheeldon, Director of Wheeldon Brothers Ltd, likes to stay ahead of the game and succeeds in producing a clean top quality SRF product.

Aſt er visiting Mach-Techs Open day held in Cumbria in June and witnessing the throughput of the Lindner Polaris, single step SRF Shredder, James decided there and then that the Polaris was exactly the one-step shredder he needed to ensure his demands and needs were met.

James said, “Having ran many shredders over the years, I have learnt what is good, average and bad and the Polaris in my opinion is defi nitely the best, and leads today’s market. T e Polaris meets the multitude of tasks and needs we have here at Wheeldon’s Waste”.

“On the Lindner Polaris we use a 60mm screen producing a 50mm product with a higher tonnage throughput of 18 tonnes per hour, which far exceeds our previous shedder, plus the Lindner Polaris is a more technologically advanced shredder which can stop without any damage to the machine whenever non-suitable items are introduced, meaning we can breathe easier”. T e Polaris is also equipped with very easy foreign part removal.

“Our choice to purchase the Lindner Polaris is giving us a more defi ned granulate size and a much cleaner product, enabling us to produce and market a higher quality SRF at much higher volumes”.

James added, “T e installation was relatively painless. All in all, we only lost two days of production and this included the removal of our old machine. I’m very happy with the end result and also with the service Mach-Tech provides. T e back-up and maintenance service has been excellent, which is a real bonus”.
