COUNTRY LIFE IN BC • JULY 2017

New group of 4-H Ambassadors engage BC 4-H BC

Every year on the May long

weekend, a new crop of 4-H BC Ambassadors join the second-year ambassadors for their annual training

GINA HAAMBUCKERS

weekend. The 4-H Ambassador team is made up from elite 4-H members from all seven regions of the province and are members aged 16 to 20 whose role is to promote awareness of 4-H in their region and around the province, as well as act as resource people for 4-H members, leaders and the public. The 4-H BC Ambassadors are excited to get out into their 4-H communities this summer. Nineteen outstanding 4-H members from BC have been awarded 4-H scholarships totalling $54,700 to assist in their post-secondary education. We would like to thank the following 2017 provincial 4-H scholarship donors who are to be complimented for their belief in 4-H youth, the future leaders of tomorrow: Chernoff Family Foundation, BC Youth in Agriculture Foundation, Wim and Annie Zylmans Agriculture Memorial Fund, Vancouver Foundation, BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation, BC Young Farmers, Mutual Fire Insurance Company of BC, The Western Producer, MNP, Saanich Fruit Growers’ Association, 4-H BC Foundation and the Richard Fatt

Rob Forster of Mission and Lillian Stewart of Mara. It was very exciting as Lillian was present at the draw. She was volunteering with the 4-H BC pancake breakfast, as were her granddaughters, Ashlee and Allyson, who sold her the winning ticket! 4-H BC would like to thank Davison

Orchards for hosting the event and a special thanks to PrairieCoast Equipment who has partnered with 4- H BC four times now on the 4-H BC Gator lottery.

4-H BC is thrilled to announce two of the five winners at the 4-H Canada Science Fair were 4-H BC members: Kyra Taylor (Hydroponic Forage: A Feasible Equine Feed Alternative) and Kayli Taylor (Wood Chips to Prevent Erosion). Both moved on to the Canada-Wide Science Fair that took place in Regina, May 18-20. In the 4-H BC office, staff are gearing up for our summer programs that include Youth Action and Provincial Communication Finals as well as some fun 4-H community days. Youth Action is an opportunity for

Memorial 4-H Scholarship Fund. The 4-H Gator Lottery draw took place on June 10 at Davison Orchards in Vernon. The day started off with a free pancake breakfast and a few 4-H

members were on hand with their 4-H projects for a “Meet My 4-H Project” opportunity. At 10 am, the draw for the two John Deere XUV 560 Gators took place. The lucky winners were

14 to15-year-old 4-H members to come together for five days to explore issues important to youth, to learn new self-esteem skills and to learn leadership skills while working in groups. Provincial Communication Finals will be held in Salmon Arm on July 22. The event is open to the public. Westgen will be hosting a 4-H BC

Family Community Fun Day at their new office in Abbotsford on July 15. Join us for a BBQ, fun and games!
